Welcome to the Castle-town of Valoria

The prototype of ViViD's newest level has been complete. However, right now, only a single castle-town is open and available to be accessed with a mini-mission for all registered players. This castle-town is currently undergoing a terrible plague that causes those who drink the water to become strongly infected by the venom laced within.

The venom creates a form of volatile madness known as The Maenas, and it is said to originate by a single flower growing in the center of the castle-town's lake.

In order to purify it, everyone will have to work together to rescue the Priestess who is being held hostage in one of the castle-town's main towers, which is currently being guarded by a large dragon. Who that dragon is working for is currently unknown, but right now, it's preventing the priestess from helping the villagers.

At the log in screen, players will be greeted by Vidia, giving them a friendly announcement and providing them with the mission details:
"You're here at last! There's no time to delay, Player. The priestess mourns the more you hesitate. Come on, get equipped, and follow me! Are you ready? You simply have to follow my instructions.

✩ Get to the tower and defeat the dragon.
✩ Do not kill the townsfolk. They don't know any better! Knock them out, but do not let them die, or the imps will eat their corpses!
✩ Kill the imps, they're aggravating the madness! Each imp will release a soul orb on death. Grab it! It'll protect you from the madness, too. Each soul orb is worth ten credits!
✩ You have six hours. Please rescue the Priestess in that time, and she will be able to let you out.
✩ If you encounter people already from Tellus, you'll get a bonus orb for each soul orb you collect for all players.
✩ If you don't fight, you'll end up affected by the flower's curse... please, band together with someone and travel with them to slow the effects.
✩ The dragon will continue to re-spawn if it's fought alone. Please fight as a pair or group to bring it down if you can!
✩ Remember, you only have six hours... hurry, please!"

PHASE I
[ xx:xx ] You're standing right in the center of the entertainment district inside the main ViViD hub. The machines sit before you, beckoning to being worn so you can test out the newest level in ViViD. There are others around you, in similar positions. Researchers are on stand-by to document your every move and make sure there are no glitches at all. As you settle into your chair, you slowly put on the helmet and find yourself being immersed in a world that's so real, you can hardly tell whether or not you're in the game or still in reality. (Please don't attack the researchers, they're only doing their job and they won't hurt anyone!)
PHASE II
[ xx:xx ] You're fully immersed in the game now, wandering around with the list of objectives Vidia gave you. It's your choice where you want to start first. You can talk to the NPCs, engage in a grueling battle, level up, or head straight to fight the boss in a daring suicide run. However, as you walk through the castle-town, you catch glimpses of shifting faces. The NPCs look familiar for a moment, maybe reminiscent of someone back home. The effect lasts too short for it to be noteworthy until it continues to occur. Feel free to explore, but remember, you have six hours, a holographic timer to the side of your screen will appear when you wish for it.
PHASE III
[ xx:xx ] Another glitch appears. This one is more debilitating than the rest, leaving you hanging mid-attack. The game seems to freeze completely for a solid two minutes. In that time-span, the world shifts to your own. You're standing right in the middle of the one you remember, staring up into a sky painted red with fire while a blood-curling scream erupts from the back of your mind. You glance down around, and one by one, the people start to fall to the ground, shattering like glass. In the distance, the dragon looms, staring straight at you and roaring, though its voice seems equally agonized. Then the game resumes normally as though nothing happened. Your complete your attack and continue as normal.

Then something else appears within the darkness for a moment, lost in a single blink. That one second passes so swiftly it's barely noticeable. It might throw you off, it might leave you facing a pair of imps or crazed hordes. Whoever is with you had better started fighting... And you'd better run if you're alone!
PHASE IV
[ xx:xx ] You've reached the end. Victory is yours. The townspeople are cheering, and the Priestess is rewarding you with a kind smile and several credits to your name. The dragon lies on the ground defeated, though its eyes are open still, hollow and black. In the reflection, you can still see the traces of a world left behind. In that moment, you can also swear you see it blinking when it should be dead, but there's no time to dwell. You're being logged out and the researchers are shoving surveys in your face or asking you questions about your experience.

BONUS
[ why:o'clock ] Welcome to the Dressing Room. This is where you can dress up your character in ViViD in all kinds of costumes. Completing missions will open up new outfits that will be delivered in the real world to character's flats. As a prize for completing the above mission, characters will be rewarded with some special outfits (both are unisex). Characters will immediately be launched into the Dressing Room upon completion so they can see themselves modeling their brand new outfits to one another.
[ You can choose to set your threads in the game or before/after if you'd like. Remember to apply proper warnings on threads with trigger-y or inappropriate material and do let a mod know if your thread careens off into maiming or canoodling so we can lock the log. ]

//RUN.EXE
Welcome to CEREALIA's second Test Drive Meme. Please forgive our appearance as we are still going through the final stages of game completion… mostly fighting with table codes. While most pages are under development and/or hidden from the public eye, please don't feel discouraged, since knowing everything doesn't always make the experience. Your characters will know as little as you. For your convenience, we have compiled a post detailing everyone's arrival experience and a FAQ that should explain everything in more detail. Please read them thoroughly before playing. Thank you!

Phase III }
[ how frustrating this entire thing had become, but Yukina is admittedly hoping to find answers of the more distinct variety by completing the so called mission to rescue the kidnapped priestess. It's the only thing she can insist to herself that she do to be productive and useful while trying to figure a way of escape back home (but if her world is truly gone...) ]

Ah...? [ caught in her thoughts, she isn't expecting to be left hanging mid-air, although confusion settles before panic, particularly as everything in the game glitches. Before she has a chance to further assess the situation she's suddenly standing, the entire environment taking on a much more realistic (and horrific) form. Because it is truly a sky she remembers well, only not in that color.

The awful sound of that scream brings her to jerk her attention from the sky and down around to see individuals panicking and attempting to flee, only to never get far in their terror as their images collapse and shatter. Eyes wide, Yukina brings a hand to her mouth in disbelief, pushing herself to finally move a few steps forward despite the crowd moving in the opposite direction. And that's when she sees the large beast that has already spotted her and singled her out.

But, its pained roar is as frightening as it is conflicting and she can't seem to make sense of anything... except.

Except, there's a body on the ground between her and the dragon and not an unfamiliar one. her heart starts to pound, feeling sickness wash over her like a wave (she knows him, she knows him). She tells her this isn't real and that there's no reason to react the way she is but it feels so very much so that it's as if she's suddenly feeling all that agony the dragon and the people falling into pieces are experiencing. But, despite herself wanting to go to him (because he can't be dead—no he's not real, yukina, stop it—he's not dead—!) she can't move, only the visuals around her bleeding over her and sinking further into her mind.

She screams; and it's a frustrated and fear-filled scream, but it's only once she's on the ground with her attack suddenly completed as if it had never been interrupted in the first place does she realize that she did so, her throat feeling uncomfortable and raw from the strain. She's back in the game environment; no dragon, no body, and no visuals of a world she called her own.

Yukina swallows, feeling embarrassed by her outburst (as well as her ridiculous... Hallucinations? Who knows.), and silently rises to her feet, sheathing her blade in the process before dropping her gaze to the carcass of the motionless imp her blade had struck.

Was that part of the game just now? Or something—she blinks, glancing up suddenly towards the darkness only to be greeted by that flickering image before it's swallowed back into the darkness. Eyes wide, she lets herself linger in surprise, staring in the (hopefully now) empty darkness.

What... what was that just now?
    ]

Bonus }
[ absolutely not what she expected when logged out of the game, but to Yukina's credit she is taking to the new... Erm, attire, at least calmly. Currently, she's tugging curiously at the sleeves of the costume, not bothering to push the hood back just yet, instead pulling at the front in hopes to glance down it and see that despite the costume, she still as her normal clothes underneath it... ]

...So much for answers, even after all that.

    [ Ugh. ]

Phase II
[Rescue a priestess, huh. Chizuru finds it a little... ironic, perhaps, that the first thing she's really getting involved with after Zelien - a place where they'd all longed for rescue - is to rescue someone else. They'd spent so long unable to save themselves, and now they're expected to save another person? But they have to try. That priestess is depending on them, these people are depending on them--

...it's all fake. It's not really a priestess in mortal danger (even though this all seems so real), but that doesn't change the fact that she would like to help her, to save this town. Maybe it's because immersing herself in this strange world is a lot easier than facing the fact that there are some people she's lost that she may never, ever get back. She wasn't able to do a thing to save her friends or her world, but she can at least content herself with not being entirely useless here.

That's what she tells herself as she starts to explore the castle-town, anyway; she has to find out as much about this as she can in the short amount of time she has to complete this "mission," and that means talking. So she's seeking out anyone who might have information - "NPCs," as they're called - and that means she's paying attention to their faces -

So she sees the barest flicker of familiarity, and it stops her in her tracks. She blinks, and the moment is gone, and she goes on her way - until it happens again.

And again.

And again.

It's too much. She abandons her investigation to lean against one of the walls of a building, looking every bit as frightened and lost and overwhelmed as she feels.]

Phase IV
[That entire experience was far too unsettling, and even disengaged from the game as she is now, she doesn't feel prepared to answer any of the researchers' questions or fill out any of the surveys or even be around people at all. She stammers out some excuse or another, saying she'll be back to tell them what they need to hear but for now she just needs to breathe -

And she's gone, running, out of the main ViViD hub and to the quietest place she can find that's nearby. Maybe someone will spot her as she's making her quick escape; maybe she'll turn a corner and nearly smack right into them.

Or maybe she'll have the opportunity to collect herself, and once she's able to think more clearly, she'll realize that she's lost track of where she is and how she got there. When that happens, she will look for someone to approach and will clear her throat to get their attention.]

Um - excuse me? I'm a little lost...

[this isn't too different from home, really. dragon slaying tended to be the sort of thing that you saw in fairy tales rather than real life, but ivalice had dragons enough for those foolish enough to fight them. generally, delita was not one so foolish, but sometimes circumstances changed.

this counted very much as a changed circumstance.

but it's no matter; the logging out process doesn't bother him. when the gaggle of researches comes, though, the normally calm facade of delita has a bit of a blunter edge to it.]

One at a time, or you get no answers.

[he doesn't yell - he just raises his voice enough that they can hear him. delita does not demand respect, but he does demand not to be treated like a lab rat. knights have dignity, after all. notably, when delita gives answers, there's no elaboration on it - he just sticks straight to what factually happened.

afterwards, though, the man who had been so competent in ViViD doesn't seem much interested in talking about it. however, if you (yes, you!) were the one playing with him...]

Can I help you?

=bonus=

Cute.

[he figured he'd try it on at least once, but delita looks completely unimpressed at the bonus clothing that he's been given.]

Is this supposed to be motivation, or a joke? If they so desperately need our help, why mock us?

[he's not mad, but he does find it extremely distasteful.]

[ Phase II ]

[What looks like a young child, short and easily shoved around by the crowds, is wandering around the town, flitting quickly from street corner to shop and continuing on. If you've got a good eye, you're likely to notice his long, pointed ears, marking him as not human, but he's behaving politely enough, if you're concerned about that sort of thing.

He rubs his hands over his arms and tries to smile if he catches anyone's eye, but this isn't his element at all, and it shows. He's never been all the good with crowds, especially ones filled with the larger peoples of the world. It makes him uneasy, and when he grins, it's easier to get a glimpse of his sharp teeth than it normally would be.

Despite trying to talk to the normal NPCs, his efforts don't seem to be going that well, and he's quickly catching the attention of the infected townspeople and a few imps. If left alone, he's likely to get into even more trouble.
]

Now, this sort of excessive violence isn't needed, is it? I'm sure I can make it up to you, if I've done something wrong!

[Or maybe he's already in it pretty deeply, considering he's trying to reason with people infected with madness. Maybe someone should tell him to run or something, before someone ends up dead.]

[ Bonus ]

[Cynbel likes a great many things, but he's especially fond of new clothes, so he's happy enough to try on these. Beautiful clothes from a new world! They've got to be something special, something he's never seen before

Only... Who the hell designed these things? Sure, they're new and interesting. They made one small enough for him, too, but the fact that they're so restricting to wear has him thinking this isn't so lucky, after all.
]

Really, now. The color is one thing, but why is it so tight around the ankles? It feels terribly strange, don't you think?

[Whether you agree with him or not, he looks like he's about to talk your ear off, like every true fashion snob. Will you hear him out, or is now a good time to try backing away?]

And it's true, that some of the NPCs, the more she glances at them, seem familiar. Ren's eyes meet hers, in passing, and she thinks she can spot Blake's tell-tale bow somewhere up ahead. But it's not them, and finally, Yang gives up on hopefully approaching NPS and goes for a more productive approach.

Which is to say...

If you see this teenager getting into actual flame-fisted shenanigans with imps, and grinning as she flips herself into the middle of a group of them, don't worry. This is normal for her.

In fact, she probably wouldn't mind company. The more, the merrier, right? ]

PHASE II-A

[ It's hard enough to get Wash to even put this thing on. Killing imps, fighting dragons and rescuing priestesses are so out there that he has half a mind (if not more) to get out of it as soon as he can. The very last thing he wants to do is play a game, but he ends up being convinced to put the helmet on and enter. Still, even then he isn't convinced to stay—and every minute he spends inside of ViVid just makes him think that he should get out of there.

Until he notices the faces. Which is funny, because he doesn't really see faces that are familiar, but it unnerves him enough, and he chooses to keep at it. Or at least, he isn't currently attempting to ditch the game yet, and is instead standing in the middle of the town, staring through his helmet at nothing. Not like it's obvious that he's just blankly staring into space while avoiding a sigh, but he is. And his helmet might be turned towards whoever, but still. Not staring. ]

A dragon.

[ He is definitely talking to himself, though. ]

PHASE II-B

[ After much deliberation, sighing and thinking thoughts similar (but not limited to) "Why am I here?" "What is really going on?" "Why is there an imp trying to climb up that wall?" Wash has finally entered the battle. All of his concern aside, he's been convinced to help and that's what he's doing. It's not like he didn't want to help either, but... his concern and the idea of this being a game, whether it was or not, wasn't something he could pass up easily.

Not like it matters much now. Wash has collected a couple orbs, and is now turning to see an imp sneaking up behind someone. ]

Hey!

[ If said person doesn't turn around and handle the imp themselves, Wash will jump down from the nearest ledge and stab the imp in the back of the neck with a knife. Guns are better, but hey, it works when he doesn't want to accidentally shoot the villagers in the distance. ]

Jump straight to the final boss? This would be so much easier if things were straightforward and more like a mindless first person shooter. That she could handle. This—she wasn't sure she could.

She's a disappointment even while playing a video game. Awesome. She wishes her sister were here. She would know what to do. She always does. The best Mukuro can do by herself is stop dead in her tracks, as if possessed by something, before she just—]

PHASE II

[This ViViD thing was still totally new and foreign to Two. It was weird, knowing that in reality she was actually sitting in a chair somewhere with a helmet on her head, and that the town she was walking around in wasn't reality. That meant the people she passed by weren't technically real either, right? That kind of thing bothers Two a lot. She was having a hard time accepting the NPCs as just part of the "game" when they looked just like people... on top of acknowledging that this was some sort of game in the first place. In fact, she was sympathizing with the NPCs quite a bit. It wasn't their fault they had to suffer like this! But she could make it all better if she just saved the Priestess, right? And to do that...]

So, I guess we gotta get into that tower somehow... [Two taps a finger to her chin in thought. Even with her immense strength and Intoner abilities, just barging in wouldn't be a good idea if it was just her (on top of the fact it wasn't meant to be soloed). And honestly, she wasn't used to fighting by herself, whether it was with her sisters or with her lover. So she looks around the crowd, trying to conjure up a plan as she scans the area, when she spots someone.

Actually that someone might be you... ...!!]

Heeey, you there! We should totally team up, don'tcha think?

PHASE III

Ah-

[It completely catches her off-guard. Suddenly she was frozen in midair under a fiery red sky, her blade still in mid-slice, the ruins of the Cathedral City stretched out in front of her. Her soldiers, the soldiers Cent had enhanced with her song... they were here for some reason and they were falling- breaking around her, as if they were made of glass. Why were they breaking like that? She could hear screaming from far away, but... who was it that was screaming? Was it her own screaming? Or was it the screaming of the orphans she'd practically adopted as her own? She couldn't see them anywhere but... No no no, not them! If they were hurting somewhere, she wouldn't be able to stand it! If they were suffering somewhere, she wouldn't be able to forgive herself! And as she tries to look around for them as best she could, among the ruins she could see a dragon. That dragon... was screaming too, wasn't he? It sounded like he was crying out too. It was scary... This was scary. So, so, so scary. Everything was really scary. She wanted it to stop right now. She didn't want to see this anymore!

And when she has just about reached her limit, finally she is relinquished of whatever caught hold of her and the game world returns to normal. Her blade finally slashes through the last imp in her path, but she crumbles to the ground shortly afterward, clutching at nothing. What was that she just experienced? It completely took her breath away, and she was shaking badly as she sits back and looks up at the sky. A sky no longer violent and blazing.

But it felt so real...]

[PHASE II

Edgeworth has no time for games. But he doesn't have much of a choice in this case; besides, after his experience in another world, he has learned that sometimes, there really is no time to question something, and just take that as an opportunity to get closer to the truth. So, he resigns himself to his fate sitting in a virtual game and exploring a virtual world.

So far, he is just walking through the castle town, constantly vigilant, as if waiting for one of the NPCs to morph into a monster and attack. That doesn't happen, but something else happens.

The flash of Phoenix's intense eyes. A young girl selling magical items who looks so much like Maya. A fruit seller accidentally knocking over a few melons (well, they seemed to be some sort of melon) whose face reminded Edgeworth of Detective Gumshoe. Even as he stopped to speak to an important young woman reading a scroll (despite feeling very odd talking to someone who technically shouldn't exist), he could have sworn he caught the same smirk that Franziska always wore in times of triumph.

Suddenly, this was more than just a game. He checks his time; perhaps he can spend a few more minutes investigating the "town", wondering if he simply missed his home far too much, or if the game meant to invoke and channel his memories of people he knew, or if this was actually not supposed to happen.

So, you might find a man with a sword at his belt weaving in and out of the NPCs, striking up conversation with as many as he can, and inspecting his surroundings for any clues.

(or we can do a battle scene! I'd love me a good battle scene.)]

[PHASE IV; POST-GAME

Whoopdee-do, it's finally over, and Edgeworth can return to reality at last. It's a bit jarring at first, to suddenly find himself back with the researchers and sitting in his chair instead of standing up with the cheering townspeople (no longer did he find the glint of Phoenix's eyes, or Franziska's sneer). But then he just lets out a breath in relief - until he goes over everything one last time.

The familiar faces and glimpses of people he cared about. The vision of a ruined world. The scream that, even now, makes the hairs on the back of his neck stand on end upon mere recall.

He opens his mouth to ask questions, but now the researchers are asking HIM questions. Infuriated, he grits his teeth and sets about quietly writing in the surveys, attempting to accommodate the researchers as best as he can at the same time. You might want to wait till they've left him behind with the surveys to fill out if you'd like to talk to him.]

Phase II

[When he signed up for this, or more like he hadn't and sort of was forced into the ordeal, he hadn't signed up for some virtual game nonsense. If he wanted to kill something or get into some ridiculous war, then he could do that back home with the others. Or, well, if any of them were still alive. Schrodinger couldn't recall exactly if any of them would have survived the war ordeal against Hellsing, he knew that they would have a significantly easier time with Alucard out of the way, but he couldn't even completely say that he had managed to nullify that particular threat.

A frown crossed his lips as he surveyed the area around him, arms crossed over his chest as he tried to figure out how to make this game truly fun. He certainly wasn't about to go in and take on some suicide mission, even if that wasn't much of a problem to him. This game had rules and he was quite content assuming they hadn't thought about his abilities when they were designing this virtual avatar. Obnoxious.

However, he could see about rallying the villagers into some kind of ragtag bunch that would protect him from the dragon. Staying in the sidelines and going from there was more of his speed and that was the way he wanted to keep it. He wasn't a fighter, wasn't a strategist in a sense, he was more the manipulator or rouge of sorts. Being able to sneak past and get information and items as were needed.

Thus he took it upon himself to try and converse with the villagers, even if it would be more or less a moot point.]

Phase III

[Having failed his previous mission, he had ended up deciding that getting some sort of weapon was the best course of action. Opting for what was quite similar to his military-standard knife he was out and about on the outskirts of town, taking down small-fry monsters and animals without any sort of empathy or mercy shown. In fact, anyone watching this could see a red color in his eyes, movements precise and effective in killing with the least resistance. Obvious military training of some sort, though ruthless in the manner.

All of it had to crash down around him, seeing the world around him as the final battle in London. All of the fire, a blood red sky, buildings toppled into debris and on fire. Slowly he allows his tongue to slide past his lips, attention shifting immediately to the sky to search for the zeppelins, to find his Major and other commanding officers. He had somehow returned to the battle, brought back to perform some other sort of act. And yet in all of his searching he found nary a thing to point to his suspicions.

Except the form of the dragon, something he knew for absolute certainty was not in their world by any stretch of the imagination.

And then it was gone, leaving him standing in this open plain, knife clutched tightly in his gloved hands. White gloves already stained with blood and dirt.]

I could go and save the priestess all on my own, but wouldn't that ruin the game for all the other players? They are calling it a "game," after all, which means it's supposed to be fun. Someone as powerful as I am could slay a dragon and rescue a priestess without any trouble at all, but what's my motivation? To be honest, I kind of sympathize with the dragon. If you were stuck guarding a tower on all on your own, wouldn't you want some company? I can't think of any better company than a lovely priestess.

Ah, but if I save that priestess, will I get a reward? Hm... maybe that's not part of this particular game, but I'm sure as soon as she sees my face she'll reconsider and throw herself at my feet. It really is a curse, being as handsome and cool as I am.

[ it's around this time that he finally notices that his solilquoy has garnered some attention, so he turns to face whoever it is that's been listening to him. in truth, he'd noticed quite a bit sooner, but continued on with his insane rant anyway... because that's just how cent rolls. ]

Oh, sorry, am I bothering you? But of course I am. With a face this gorgeous, there's no way you wouldn't be bothered. Either you're jealous of my looks, or you want a taste. Unfortunately, I'm a little too busy at the moment to keep you company. [ busy... talking to himself. yes, even as he says that, it's still clear he wants someone to talk to. or someone to show off to. either/or. ]

( phase iv. )

[ despite all that big talk earlier, slaying that dragon was actually pretty difficult... and cent wasn't actually much help at all. instead, he's kind of taken a beating, as he tends to whenever he fights. he'd never admit that though, which is why he's doing his best to look like nothing's wrong.

even as he occasionally clutches at his ribs, which he's pretty sure are broken. ]

No sweat. A dragon like that's a piece of cake for a guy like me. [ even if said dragon almost ate him like a piece of cake. ] Just give me a second to... catch my breath, will you? I didn't get enough sleep last night, and that's starting to catch up to me.

[ yes, lack of sleep definitely explains the gashing bite marks in his sternum. ] Did you know that if you don't get enough sleep, your entire body can spontaneously start bleeding? [ that is definitely not true. ] It doesn't happen often, but it sure is a pain when it does. Hey, you could call this some sort of rare event, couldn't you? I sure am a lucky guy.

[ okay yeah now he's just going to collapse because why is he even talking with wounds like that. ]

[ this isn't the first time he's experienced an MMORPG, and it definitely isn't the first time he's been in a virtual reality world. when he experienced it in Adstringéndum he and Agito had been a druid-class; this time, he's not.

spending time leveling up is the smartest option, so he speaks to some NPCs and searches for beginner quests to increase his skills. whenever his vision flashes and he sees familiar faces... well, he's accustomed to strange things happening. ]

I just want to level up. [ he huffs, wanting to focus on his quests and not familiar faces flashing in his peripherals. ]

[ okay, this? this is totally Akito's jam. cute, fun clothes? hell yeah! he entertains himself by making dinosaur poses in the mirror, accompanied by the occasional little 'rawr'.

just because he's technically an adult now doesn't mean he isn't going to indulge in some fun. ]
