now why exactly should you care about Donten ni Warau anyway, it's obscure as hell, WELL LET ME TELL YOU A FEW THINGS

First off, it's really gorgeous. Like for real, I'd spam this art at you all day. Kemuri-sensei provides like no other.

Secondly? it's only 29 chapters in total.. SUCH A QUICK READ (trust me, I read it all in a night and lost control of my life) but if you want more than the initial storyline, we have an on-going gaiden and author tweets and profiles and another prequel called Rengoku ni Warau that's currently being written which is like Donten but in the Sengoku era if you wanna get your samurai fix. What's more is that we've compiled all of these things for you in a handy dandy resource page.

NOW DO WE HAVE ANY SHOUTOUTS IN PARTICULAR - yes of course we do, this cast is huge but I will try.



the pipsqueak to the left is Chuutarou, the youngest Kumou brother who is hyperactive and adorable and now you can ICly throw rocks at people, wow amazing.

the awkward teenager to the right of Tenka is Soramaru and can be considered the protagonist if you're into labels, I guess. the best cook, the most shounen out of errybody, and just trying to grow up a little too fast.

the pretty pretty pretty guy to the right is Kinjou Shirasu, resident ninja mom. Shirasu is good at everything and we hate him for it.

WELCOME TO THE YAMAINU, AIN'T NOBODY FRESHER THAN THIS CLIQUE. Kiiko, the goddess to the left, is the childhood friend that rounds out Tenka and Sousei's idiocy if you want to make me and the Sousei player really happy because Kiiko is Queen. everyone else in the Yamainu mostly has enough background that they're appable, some more than others.

oh and finally


this is botan and she's a part-time school teacher and full-time shikigami. which also means that she's a badass and immortal, casually tying people to trees with magic or threatening to stab ninjas, it's a good time. I'm adding her because we have an Utakata ni Warau cast (what are the odds) and a Botan to complete their trio would be so bomb.

but legitimately anyone else from the series would be great.

Katsura can be pretty illogical and stupid, even though he got excellent grades in samurai school back when times were less complicated, and seems to never be joking over the dumbest shit.

BUT JOKES ASIDE I'd love to see more SW characters running around! As the name implies, it's a hack-and-slash game based off the Sengoku (or Warring States) period in Japan. We have tons of pretty boys, tsunderes, lolis, bewitching women, grumpy old men, father figures, warrior princesses - so many. SO MANY. There are 55 characters in our roster, and a 56th coming up in the newest game (to be released next year) so there's bound to be a character to your taste.

There will definitely be cultural shock on their part, and the 'WHY ARE THERE SO MANY DEAD ASIANS' on the other characters' part. And they all have magical weapons (this is a hack-and-slash game, after all), and various (almost) superhuman abilities - PLUS great tragedy since this is the Sengoku Era, and each one of them deals with it in a different way. Protecting one's homeland is a huge theme in many of the clan stories, so hearing of the Flamines definitely will be shocking. How they handle it or bond with the moderners here will vary per person too.

okay, so the bad news is that it's in japanese and i highly doubt it's ever going to be localized. but it's about demons and sengoku times who doesn't love that (i didn't even love the latter going in okay).. the history babble is a little hard to follow along but the rest is not that hard to get through even if your japanese isn't A++. i also have like 598984 summaries of the various routes and the entire fandisk i can throw at you if you need it to be able to follow along with everything. i also know a lot of the fandisk can be found in videos online and maybe the main game too...?? i don't know i haven't looked but if you get the opportunity to play toki no kizuna, play it, it's so good and the art is gorgeous. i'll search the entire internet for you if you need it.



mostly i'd encourage you to bring one of shuu's ~evil demon buddies~ since he really needs a freaking babysitter already. even if these are the worst kind of babysitters. you can try to force him to eat carrots and he'll cry like a five year old and it'll be glorious.



BUT i'd also just kill for just about anyone... or for anyone to read this canon.. toki no kizuna is so important
