THIS seems nice and friendly. One minute you're doing whatever you do in your weird existence and the next, you're standing on the top of a tall, tall tower. There's no ground that you can really see; it drops off into darkness. All around you, there's code, breaking through the walls and your fingers and even the very air.

In fact, it looks like you're in the middle of a very shoddily designed Tron-knock-off. Which is exactly what this is, of course. Looks like CERES didn't finish this level before they chucked you into it.

That sounds like a very CERES thing to do.

Good luck, everyone.

//SCENARIOS.EXE

PHASE I

[ ??:?? ] It's impossible to tell time in this place, and everything looks the same, but it won't be long before you're probably sick of the tower. Time to get down -- unless you have magical powers or can fly or something, it'll probably be pretty tough, too. You could try to climb down, but the walls look pretty slick, and -- oh god, your arm just went through the wall, what the hell.

Whatever you do, don't fall.

If you fall, you'll be stuck falling forever. And ever. And ever. Looks like they didn't put a failsafe into ViViD for falling, so now you're stuck. You might see some other people stuck in the same glitch, falling forever a la Alice in Wonderland, but honestly? You're stuck that way until your game resets itself.

PHASE II

[ ??:?? ] Either way, you've made it to the ground (somehow). The ground looks like... a half-finished city, really. There are streets, and houses... but some of the houses are unfinished, just four walls and no roof, or only three walls, or nothing inside, and a lot of the NPCs are completely faceless, or only have one line they repeat over and over again.

It's honestly pretty unnerving, especially since there's no soundtrack at all. You can just traverse this creepy hellscape in complete and utter silence.

And then the cars start to fly away.

That's definitely normal (is there anything about this game that isn't faulty?).

PHASE III

[ ??:?? ] It's not safe.

You could be anywhere in this level, wandering, searching -- and then suddenly, it's there. As it appears, a battle theme starts, but it's distorted, eerie and off-pitch. There's something very wrong about this enemy, that's for sure. It can't be defeated, either. Attacks can harm it, and it can be tossed aside or fought, but it just gets right back up, bloodied and beaten, as if unstopped by anything it's feeling.

Over and over and over again.

Just don't let it touch you.

Because it will start to absorb you, code bit by code bit, until there's nothing left of you. It's a cannibalistic distorted monster, wonderful.

PHASE IV

[ ??:?? ] If it wasn't apparent already, physics is a little weird here. One second you're walking along, and the next there's basically no gravity; you could jump wherever you want, clearing buildings in a single bound like the superman you were always meant to be. One second you're your normal amount of strength, and the next you could life cars (if you so chose), for no apparent good reason.

Sometimes the world just tilts, making the ceiling the floor very suddenly, and sometimes the floor drops out from under you entirely.

Anything that could go wrong with the physics here does go wrong.

Just try not to get caught halfway through a now-solid floor. That sounds really, really uncomfortable.

BONUS

[ ??:?? ] Of course, it wouldn't be glitch central without something weird happening to you. And it could be anything -- one second you're fine, and the next your arm is twice as long as it should be, and totally noodly. Suddenly you have a mermaid tail or animal ears, or your head has rotated upside down (how is that even happening?). You're suddenly able to walk through walls, or drag objects to you by pointing at them.

If this was a video game (it is), it would be the faultiest game to ever exist, that's for sure.

(Still, teleporting from one side of the world to the other by jumping on a single spot on a flowerbed is kind of entertaining, if nothing else.)

Doudanuki Masakuni | Touken Ranbu (returning)

[personal profile] helmsplitter 2016-09-01 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
Phase II : we built this city on rock n' rubble
[He hadn't expected to ever be back here. Where he'd gone, he couldn't remember, but being back? Not part of the plan. At first, he hadn't been certain of where he was, but with the code flying everywhere and him having just fallen about thirty leagues to land in a hellscape where computer code seems to be flying up into the sky, he only has one guess: ViViD. Somehow he's back.

Doudanuki isn't sure what to do. There's no enemy to fight or clear goal to be achieved; only half built homes with furniture that fuzzes out into nothingness halfway through and doors that go nowhere. The people have no faces and they don't seem sentient. He also hasn't seen anyone else yet either. Is this what hell is like? It's definitely not the afterlife, that's for certain. He walks up to one particular weird looking NPC - completely rendered except for the face and yet a voice comes out.
]

Hey! Hello?

"I had a dog named Jerry once."

That's nice. Can you tell me where I am?

"I had a dog named Jerry once."

Yeah, I got that. Where am I?

"I had a dog named Jerry once."

...Great.

Phase III : say you don't know me but don't eat my face
[This thing has been stalking him for over an hour now. Everywhere he runs, it's there. He tried fighting it and it ate part of his code, siphoning off bits of him until he could break away. Now he looks like he's got moderate damage. Bits of his armor broken off and his clothes torn. He's realized he can't fight it, so he runs, but it's always there. As he turns a corner and flees, looking over his shoulder, he runs right into someone. With parts of his code missing, he isn't as solid as he should be, so he bounces back, hitting a partially constructed wall.]

Shit! Sorry!

Fatima | Luminous Arc 2

[personal profile] shadowfrost 2016-09-01 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
PHASE I

[ Inexplicably being on top of a big, dark tower is not quite how Fatima expected to start out the day, but she doesn't think about it too much before glancing to the side. There are others at the top with her, and, more worrisome, that sure looks to her like someone about to slip off the side of the tower. Given how she can't see the ground however far down below, she can only imagine the grisly pancake they'd make and shoots an ice spell near their feet to keep them from stepping onto air. Ice isn't much better of a platform, but it's just dry enough to not have them slip. ]

Be more careful! Falling from this high would kill you. [ She sounds almost like a mom, chastising like that, but she looks more than a little frustrated too. ]

PHASE III

[ Of all the things she had to find here, she had to find a Beast Fiend. Or, what she thinks is a Beast Fiend. Damn if it doesn't look just like one. Despite its grotesque and warped appearance, she doesn't feel anything remotely similar to fear. She's handled monsters like this before, so what's one more? ]

You. [ She jerks her head toward the monster, and in order to stop its advance and buy herself a little more time to talk, she casts a Gravity Ice spell. The huge, purplish chunk of ice drops right onto its head, pinning it in place, and as the creature flails around to get it off, she waves at the other person as if shooing them away. ] If you're not going to run, I hope you're at least good with a weapon or something.

PHASE IV

[ The sudden and recurrent changes in physics have, up until this moment, been pretty mundane. Sure, an unexpected step launching her into the air and landing on top of a house is bizarre, but at least she's in one piece and can still get down!

Or so she thinks. Fatima's puzzled expression morphs into abject horror as the roof itself suddenly becomes intangible, and she falls halfway through it, just up under her armpits, before the roof becomes solid again. She tries to free herself, but the woodwork is solid, and she's not going to be getting free any time soon. What's worse, she can feel her feet dangling and kicking in the room below.

Fatima drags a gloved hand down her face and pulls herself up the most she can to shout down at the street below. Mortifying as it is, she can't get out by herself. ]

H-Hey! I need some help! So...could you come here?!

[personal profile] bulletfool 2016-09-01 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
PHASE II

[Amid the sea of faceless people (whoa! what's wrong with your face?) after that dreadfully dull presentation – that he doesn't necessarily believe – Izumi is almost relieved to find someone who looks normal. Until . . . ]

Watch yourself.

What? Why?

Watch yourself.

And I'm asking why –

Watch yourself.

Hey, you're starting to sound like Tachikawa-san . . .

Watch yourse –

Okay! Okay, I get it!

[He turns away and seeks out the next person with a face, which may just be your character.]

Are you going to tell me to watch myself, too? I wasn't even testing anyone's English that time. Gimme a break!

PHASE III

Meteora!

[The obvious course of action when a horror game comes to life is to bomb the daylights out of it. Izumi fires a sea of trion bullets with no regard for his surroundings, which means he may or may not be also shooting in your character's direction, because those explosive bullets are everywhere.]

Take that, virus freak!

[After that, his right hand hovers to a missing chunk of his left forearm.]

Jeez, what's with everyone being so touchy feely lately? I can't stand it.

PHASE IV

[There's nothing like jumping from roof to roof when zero gravity strikes. Izumi's next jump is greatly exaggerated, leaving him in no position to correct his skewed trajectory, and he shouts before crashing into the nearest person.]

[THANKS, IZUMI.

Thankfully, with a swing of his halberd, Karl manages to protect himself with a flurry of ice from touhou bullet hell. He doesn't seem particularly bothered that Izumi apparently paid no heed to friendly fire, instead raising an eyebrow at something else.]

Virus freak? That's an interesting name for it...

[YOU'RE WELCOME.

Izumi notices the ice from his periphery, but it doesn't fully register that there's someone else here until he's spoken to by Karl. And then he might cry from joy, because there's an actual person here that's not telling him to be wary [of dangaa].]

Huh?

[He looks down at his arm.]

Oh, this? It's nothing.

Was that ice earlier yours? You're fighting that virus freak, too, right?

[Which is currently hobbling around a short distance away, because it's creepy like that.]

They weren't always like this. Some of these things were helpful when I was last here.

[He sighs as the figure repeats its one line.]

I think it'd be creepier if they suddenly started making sense though.

Nagasone Kotetsu | Touken Ranbu

[personal profile] fauxtetsu 2016-09-01 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
PHASE III
[ Whatever that thing is, it's freaky and not natural, of course he'll try to fight it. If you can fight, that's good! The more the merrier. If not, that's fine as well, just take cover and watch him kick its ass. It takes hits, he can cut off pieces of it just fine... He was enjoying this for a while with a grin on his face.

But there's a point where that smile of his fades; the mass of data hungry... Something actually catches his sword and tries to take and absorb it into it's pixelated, distorted body. That sword is technically him as a tsukumogami, and feeling like you're about to be eaten is really, really unpleasant. He jumps back before it does take it, looking horrified. ]

What the hell is it...?

[ Under most circumstances he'd fight to the end, but this can be that one exception because god damn it's creepy and not what can be considered a part of normal circumstances. Still, he's hesitating as it approaches (and will deny it).

Please drag him away from that thing, before he really is eaten. ]

PHASE IV
[ When this awful ViViD seems to calm itself down with the unnerving stuff, and it's hard for this place to ever seem less chaotic because this place looks like a broken sci-fi environment gone wrong...

Oh, the whole place seems to do a 90 degree turn. Or maybe the gravity got switched to sideways. Goodbye proper physics, we'll miss you. Nagasone is lucky and lands on what is now a ledge without too much pain. For anyone who wasn't that lucky and is about to fall because a flat plane is now a steep one until you splat into a wall, Nagasone grabs them before that, hopefully by the arm or hand. ]

Got you!

[ Thank goodness for swordsmanship reflexes and having the bara muscles to make pulling someone up not too hard. ]

BONUS
[ Well at some point during his wandering apparently ViViD decided to do its weird goof on his data. Or rather, goofs plural. For starters, he's sporting a pair of tiger ears, twitching at every sound. Normally he's a tall guy and something silly like that wouldn't bother him. He looks at what he hopes is a reliable reflection, some window to a building that's pretty clear. ]

Now I'm an actual fake tiger-- Hey, what?!

[ However, it's goofs plural, because Nagasone is smaller now, and that bothers him for some particular reasons: his beloved haori did not shrink with him, and neither did his vessel. So now, he has an oversized shinsegumi coat and handling an uchigatana isn't as easy at this size. Catch him trying to roll back his sleeves or struggle to climb up something (to get his height back) with a sword in tow, he'll just force a bitter smile. ]

Laugh if you want, I'm going to make whoever did this pay.

Karl backs away from the monster, gripping his halberd.]

Repositioning his stable hand, Izumi summons a Trion cube. His eyes, however, are on Karl's halberd.]

[Terrible Agent.

Konami was about to have a fun time taking on that ugly monster. Her axes were gripped tight in her hands and a hungry but eager smile played on her lips. She enjoyed fighting so it's really no surprise that she's about to take the thing head-on--- The only thing that stops her mid step is shout. It's also the only thing that keeps her from getting hit as by the rain trion bullets. She barely has enough time to make a shield out of her own trion above her head, protecting herself from the impact. But that doesn't mean she isn't pissed about it!]

She's currently wearing her weird mask but she's at least bothered to take it off her face. It's not very cute, you see, and she doesn't need it right now anyways. She needs to find a way down... ]

Ahhhhh, too slippery. That was close!

Phase III

[ Simply relieved to have made it on the ground she wasn't too bothered by the whole weirdness, because she's super convinced that this is a dream! And if this is a dream, it's not a terrible one, really. Her handy pocket knife in hand, while she wasn't amazing at combat, she knows a thing or two that can keep her alive. She's wheezing from how tired she feels by now, but there's a smile on her face as she looks at her knife for blood. ]

You're just like me, right? [ She's already let the monster touch her, but luckily she's at least pulled away before it was able to eat her whole. ] Sorry! You're not my type but I still love blood, y'see? So you should just keep showing me some. What a fun dream!

[ This girl isn't okay. ]

Bonus

As far as power types go, Konami is the gift from god in this situation. She isn't Tachikawa, but she's almost as good, considering their equal skills. Izumi is celebrating on the inside as he takes in Konami's location and the enemy's current movements.]
