Thoughts on Rei? :3 From the nerd crew.

Athena considers Rei as one of her closest friends in Cerealia: closest in the essence that they do a lot of things together and have done a lot of things together. There's still a lot more she'd like to do with Rei as friends, because hanging out with friends is a good thing!

She finds it easy to talk to Rei about the shallower and more general things in life than actually talking about Rei's secret identity and her duty to protect Serenity because while she's an empath, she just can't picture a life like that and finds it difficult to imagine. This isn't Rei's fault, of course, but when all you are is a normal person whose only ability is to hear people's hearts, it's culture shocking in a way to hear about the stories that she does.

There's definitely more to Athena than what she reveals, but she also doesn't easily talk about herself and her personal life because she's just been used to keeping to herself. She grew up isolating herself when she was a kid and didn't exactly make a lot of friends since her head would hurt from hearing too many emotions at the same time. Basically? She doesn't know how to friendship. It's only after she gets her lawyer badge that she does slowly open up to people and actually make friends. So it isn't on Rei that Athena doesn't talk about her past or anything - Athena's just an introvert despite her energetic and bright personality.

If Rei wants Athena to talk about herself more, she should definitely ask. That's what happened with Athena and Ryuko, and those two are like sisters, now. She does adore Rei, though! Rei also may have made her question her sexuality a little, but above all else, she treasures Rei a lot. There's definitely no contesting that.
