Mystery Science Theatre -3000

Welcome to Cerealia's latest attraction. In an effort to branch into other forms of entertainment, CERES has been slowly patching together films from various worlds to show in its brand new movie theater. So, grab a friend, sit back, and enjoy the newest batch of imported films with a nice bucket of popcorn. As you'll notice from the long line outside, it's the latest rage in the colony, and those tired of the same virtual battles in ViViD are eager to enjoy a little change in scenery.

For those eager to participate, you will find yourself being lead into the lobby by one of the many robotic theater employees. Showing today are five special films, and in the lobbies are various screens advertising them through the movie's digital avatar, Mnemosyne. Allow her to take you on a virtual tour of CERES' finest theatrical offerings.

(( P.S. no actual actors/actresses appear in any of the films. It's all done through advanced CGi-technology and voice acting. ))

THEATER I
[ 00:00 ] MY PETITE EQUESTRIAN EXPERIENCE - RATED A

Advertised as a delightful tale of ponies discovering magic and friendship, this is a must-see! For adults that is. The ponies are killed within the first ten minutes, and then the rest of the run time is filled with a celebratory orgy of Roman-esque proportions. There are no mentions of ponies after the initial scene. They are neither seen nor mourned nor heard from. There are only naked, gyrating bodies as far as the eye can see.

If you manage to sit through the horror long enough, you will notice a certain something in between the moaning. Is that your face on one of the protags? Is it a beloved family member or a friend? You will find that spliced between the scenes are cherished and innocent childish memories now being soiled by passionate cries of pleasure. Enjoy the new memory, your poor, sweet summer child. This will only be visible to the viewer himself/herself.
THEATER II
[ 00:00 ] LARGE ADVENTURER 7 - RATED B

A touching tale of dealing with loss and more loss. This film is about a giant robot and his pet human that gets eradicated in the Third Robotic Genocide, leaving behind just a human carcass. The giant robot clings to the carcass and cries robotic tears until finally he chucks the carcass into a river full of carcasses and decides to go on a deep quest in search of cheese.

But spliced between this tale of woe, viewers will see images of themselves caught in a romantic memory. A first kiss, perhaps? A first love-making session? A first crush? A desired one will also have their face molded on top of all the carcasses as they flow away. This will only be visible to the viewer himself/herself.

THEATER III
[ 00:00 ] THE RETALIATORS: ERA OF RADICALON - RATED C

Agent Dick Angry takes it upon himself to assemble a team of miscreant aliens to invade the hell out of "Planet Earth." The aliens include Zorn, an intelligent toaster; Crisis, a blue-skinned beauty that turns purple when she's aroused; Trish, a rogue miniature ficus with a criminal record; and General Cerealia, a handsome, ripped man who beats evil-doers with his laptop and who looks suspiciously like CERES' programmer, Elias.

This adventurous romp will feature the tragic memories of death interweaving with the destruction of the "Planet Earth." Those who attend will see first-hand the memories of their own worlds slowly being demolished before their eyes and all their loved ones screaming in agony. Then it'll loop itself again and again for the last hour of the film. Enjoy! This will only be visible to the viewer himself/herself.
THEATER IV
[ 00:00 ] DECEASE HARDER II - RATED D

Jack McJack is a cop who is having none of your shit. In this action film, he will ride around on a velociraptor and go around punching evil-doers and detonating them with land mines. If you want all the violence in the world, this is the film for you. Watch as every second is filled with pointless explosions and every curse word in all the known languages in Cerealia.

Of course, spliced between every action scene will be every embarrassing moment of your life being played out for you and only you. Or is it? Start sweating and looking in every direction as you begin to wonder if everyone else can see that time you tripped and fell on your senpai almost kissing him (sacre bleu D= !)
BONUS - THEATER V
[ why:o'clock ] YARD-DOOR PEOPLE OF QUESTIONABLE MORALS - RATED Z

This is a touching film about tenderness and coming together to overcome obstacles and achieve greatness. The Yard-Door people run into danger when an evil megalord starts polluting the air with negative feelings. The Yard-Door people must band together and save the world through kindness. They will go and help their neighbors get across the street, rake up leaves from their lawns, donate canned food to the poor, and collect toys for children who do not have any.

While this film will draw tears from your eyes, you will see happy memories. The happiest that can be mustered. They will be spliced in with the scenes in the movie, occurring side-by-side with all the smiles and fuzzy feelings leaking off the screens. This will only be visible to the viewer himself/herself.

Also, beware! This film contains the angriest of Theater Cleaning Robots. Dropping anything on the floor will result in a bit of a flogging with a wooden paddle and a robot calling you a dirty slut and claiming that you like it. Yes, BDSM robots will not take your bad behavior. You better bend over and start apologizing for being such a filthy, little theater-goer.

[But Hide does worry. He always had. He worried each time he caught a classmate picking on Kaneki. He worried after Kaneki's mother pasted away and his friend seemed to be sad all the time. He'd even worried about Kaneki after his date, after the accident, when he'd known something was wrong but didn't know what.

Hide has spent a good portion of his life worrying about Kaneki, but it hadn't done any good the one time it might have actually helped the most. If only he'd stuck around the cafe after Rize had shown up. Maybe he would have picked up on her intentions, saw her for what she was. Maybe not as a ghoul, but a predator. Maybe she would have given him the same feeling he used to get from Nishio-san. That poisonous and hateful feeling.]

I agree that it's in poor taste. But if it's not a joke or a hazing, why would they do that? Purposely show us things like that?

[And he's not just talking about the child movie turned porno they'd walked out of. Some of the other films had been just as bad. Worse even. Theater three had shown him the destruction of the 20th Ward among...other things. But what purpose does it serve to show them these things? Is it a test? A show of malice? He just doesn't have enough information to go off of.

Hide tries not to think too much about the state of their world. He'd seen first hand some of the damage that had been wrought on it. But it's not like there's anything he can do to fix it at the moment. He needs more information. But until then he's happy to focus on the positive aspects of this experience. Like having Kaneki back.

He sees his friend's guilt and feels a little regret for his choice of words. It hadn't been his intention to guilt Kaneki. Hide knows he has his reasons for the course of action he took. He just wishes that he knew what those reasons were exactly.]

Kaneki. You will always be my friend.

[His tone is one of complete seriousness to match the expression on his face. He knows this has been weighting Kaneki down for such a long time. The secret that he just can't seem to put into words. Hide could take the choice from him. Tell him that he's known all along, or at least, for a long time now. And even if he hadn't, he would have put two and two together once the CCG had began investing Kaneki and Kanou's disappearances. He doesn't blame Kaneki for keeping it a secret, but he desperately wishes there was a way he could convey his acceptance without making Kaneki feel like a fool for trying to hide it for so long. There's a reason Hide has kept this knowledge to himself for so long; because he wants it to be Kaneki's choice.]

I don't care how different you are now. All the important things are still the same.

[ Even with things as they were now, there was no way he blamed Hide for anything that happened. He never would, or rather, it wasn't in him to. If anything, it was clear the only one whom he blamed for the situation he ended up in now was him and nobody else.

He'd been so blind and trusting. Innocent minded without a thought that maybe things were going a little TOO well for him that evening, that maybe a pretty girl was interested in him. It was a bitter thought that he didn't like to think about, now finding that he should be taking in the happiness that came with something like how at least among the bitter cruelties that occurred, he ended up here with Hide.

Such a good friend to him.

Yet all he could think of was this tight feeling in his chest borne of unease, sadness and guilt weighing down upon him. From all these things he should say but was afraid to. ]

Perhaps to torture us. Remind us of what we lost... as well as to humiliate us because they can.

[ There's a flash of something unbidden in his eyes at the word 'torture' for a second, knowing he could never burden his best friend with the suffering he'd been put through at one time since he's seen him. The same thing which made him jaded, stilted and not the same boy who could just so easily trust people, part of his mind wondering if this was another thing meant to mess with him again as it seemed too good to be true.

Hide. With his kind words of reassurance. Words that just make something in his chest tighten, a hand coming up slowly to place itself atop the one that had been placed on his left shoulder.

It's almost too much to bear. ]

I... It's not the same. It's not... it really isn't... I...

[ That carefully constructed mask of his is beginning to break and fracture under such sweet kindness that he can't run away from, a bitter, sad smile curling his lips even as he looks up at Hide slowly. Please don't reject me.. ]

Would you say that even if I said... I was a half-ghoul?

[The more he thinks about the films and the motivations behind them the more confused he gets. If they were brought here for the purpose of trying to fix their worlds by helping CERES, why would they wish to torment them? What would they have to gain? The more he thinks about it the more a lingering thought takes root in his brain. Something isn't quite right. It's possible they're not being told everything.]

Torture us? They're the ones who made it possible for us to come here. Would they go through all that trouble just to humiliate us?

[It's all rhetoric, really. He knows that Kaneki can't be expected to know anymore than Hide already did. But he has a feeling these would be thoughts that he would be silently chewing over for awhile. That and his attempts to decode the flash of emotion he'd seen in Kaneki's eyes when he mentioned torture.

Torture. His gaze seems to move up to Kaneki's hair of its own accord. He doesn't know anything for sure, but he can make some guesses. When Kaneki had gone missing the first time he'd figured it probably had to do with that ghoul organization-Aogiri. Shortly after their base had been stormed, the movements of the ghoul called 'Eye patch' increased with frequency, when before there hadn't been much sight of him. Something had happened during that time. Something that had caused Kaneki to act.

He wants to ask, but he can't. It wouldn't help anything now. And Hide isn't sure he could face learning such information at this moment. He'd been the one to give the CCG the tip off. They'd been able to storm the base even sooner because of him. But if he finds out that Kaneki had been suffering all those days he'd been trying to gain information...

Hide watches Kaneki struggle to find the words, hand growing warm under Kaneki's. He's about to say something, try to distract Kaneki from the pain of what he's trying to say. If his friend isn't ready to share with him, the least he can do is let him off the hook. But the sad smile on his friend's face stops him. His expression is pleading.

And then he says it. Out loud. And the relief is immense. Hide's face softens, a gentle smile spreading across his lips. Now it's time for some truth of his own.]

I already know, man.

[ As always, even as things looked at their worst, Hide was already thinking too far ahead into things. It wasn't that he didn't consider the different possibilities, but it was more that he had a thousand other things on his mind before this even came into complete question.

He went quiet at his friend's words, musing over it as his head tilted to the side slightly in thought. They claimed to be helping them but really this just seemed like some cruel game to him until he knew otherwise, the bitter and painful thoughts of the place he'd almost called 'home' being gone something he doesn't want to think about other than the sole thought that maybe them being here just wasn't to fix their worlds with helping CELES and there was more to it than they all initially thought.

This earned a small, barely audible scoff from his lips, gaze downcast for a brief instance. ]

Probably..

[ Rhetorical questions or not he couldn't resist the need to answer it even if it's a simple response, his mind still not all here on this matter.

He tried to not be an open book and kept others at bay with his mask, believing it the best way to protect them. It didn't mean that it wasn't without it's imperfections that people could see when he slipped up and showed them just for one instance. Picking up on the little things and picking it apart until it made sense to what things meant; Hide had always been that kind of person and he should have known better when he saw those eyes trail up to his hair like that. His time spent in Yamori's 'care' was something that people would have to try really hard to pry out of him as it was a sensitive, biting subject for him.

That and he had no desire to worry or bother his best friend with things so dark and hopeless like that. He'd never want to know the extent of pain he'd been made to endure and suffer through in those days.

Infact, Kaneki almost expects rejection, revulsion and a look not unlike someone viewing a disgusting bug or insect, but then THAT look crosses Hide's face and he... ]

W-What...? How... How long have you known...?

[ His eyes are wide and he looks almost disbelieving, yet almost hopeful. He wants this to be real. That gentle smile continuing to break pieces away from that carefully crafted mask. ]
scaryintuition: (laugh)

[personal profile] scaryintuition 2015-03-17 08:23 am (UTC)(link)
[He probably is getting ahead of himself. But no one can deny that the situation is strange and worth trying to figure out. Besides, it makes Hide feel good to have something to work on. He's been concentrating so much on finding Kaneki and his work with the CCG over the past couple of months that he feels an emptiness now at having nothing to occupy his mind.

He's always been like this, jumping from one obsession to the next. From his attempts at learning kung-fu to becoming passable in English. Not to mention his most recent occupation with all things ghoul-related. It's possible he'll drop this line of thought once something else comes and strikes his fancy. But until then he'll be watching CERES' actions closely, as close as he can get.

Despite his growing suspicions, he can't help but chuckle at Kaneki's pessimism.]

You don't fully believe them about all of this either, right?

[If ever Kaneki actually wanted to talk about his experiences, Hide would be willing to listen. Maybe it would even be better for him to find out just so he doesn't think up a number of horrifying things that could have happened. But it's too soon. They still have so much to discuss before that topic needs to be broached. Hide has so much to tell Kaneki about what he's figured out and his work with the CCG.

He expects Kaneki to be surprised. Of course, he had believed Hide to be completely in the dark. But he still finds it vaguely amusing how disbelieving he was. Did he really think Hide wouldn't have been able to find out even if he hadn't overheard it?]

I...was kind of awake while you were talking to Yoshimura-san. You know, the day he offered you your job at Anteiku?

[Hide scratches his head almost self consciously. He knows that listening to their conversation probably hadn't been his best move. But they had practically been standing over the bed he was laying in. And although he trusted Kaneki, he wasn't sure how Yoshimura would have reacted to a human he didn't know well finding out about him.]
dimidiampura: (▷ No more fragile than glass)

[personal profile] dimidiampura 2015-03-17 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Even if his friend did decide to try and keep a close watch on CERES, the chances that Kaneki would remain close to protect him were high. He would do almost anything to keep his friend safe as he knows he can't lose him as the damage would be worse than anything else he's been made to experience so far in his life.

His gaze was drawn up to the blond's face when he presented that question, brows drawing into a frown after a moment of thought. Yeah, all of what they showed them upon arrival was more than most probably could bear but now that he thought about the entirety of the situation and what they've said, it did seem a little... unbelievable. Not that he didn't have those lingering doubts in his mind about it but Hide did present a good question in regards to all of this. ]

...Not entirely. I guess it seems too convenient. It would be nice to imagine that perhaps our worlds aren't gone... not entirely, anyway.

[ What was that about his pessimism, Hide?

The thing was, despite how dark, cruel and painful that experience was for him, it really would likely help to talk about it when the time came. It was a subject for a later time and something he may bring up to Hide sometime later, but he was stubborn and mostly would refuse in again, not wishing to hurt his friend with the imagery that came with what he told him regarding all of that and yet on the flip side it was HIM who wanted to know what his friend has done in all this time he'd been gone.

Where it regarded his status as a half-ghoul and hiding it from Hide, a part of him really had just been thinking that the blond wasn't going to find that out about him. Someone who was just so incredibly perceptive; this was the one thing he hoped he would have been blind about it. ]

...F-From then...? All this time... I thought...

[ Kaneki wasn't mad at Hide by any means, though his head was reeling when he thought how long his friend's known about him being like this. A monster who's probably committed more atrocities than most humans might, feeling again like he shouldn't even be here right now. ]

Tell me then, Hide. Knowing that... do you think i'm a monster?
scaryintuition: (depressed)

[personal profile] scaryintuition 2015-03-19 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
[Hide doesn't want to drag anyone into his...hobbies. Especially if he turns out to be right in his suspicions. There's no telling how dangerous CERES could be when crossed. But taking into account how they pretty much run the entire city, they can probably be quite dangerous. However, it's because of the danger that it might be better if he had like-minded allies. And apparently Kaneki's become quite the formidable foe.

But he's getting way ahead of himself. Despite how fantastical what they've been told sounds, those memories he'd seen in the theater of the 20th ward burning had felt so real. It is quite possible that everything they've been told is true. It doesn't explain the movies, but it wouldn't be the first time Hide has read too much into things. Still, he's glad that he's not the only one thinking that something is fishy.]

Yeah, it would. But even if they aren't completely destroyed, they must be pretty bad off for us to be here.

[He might not believe everything they've been told, but he is willing to believe that they're here because remaining on their world is too dangerous or impossible.

Hide is more than willing to tell Kaneki all about what he's been doing during their separation. He doesn't know how Kaneki will feel about hearing he has been working with the CCG though. But it had been the only way he could think of to gather more information on his friend's whereabouts. It's not as if he could have gotten that kind of information in the morning paper. The job had also given him some more insight into what had been done to his friend. The one thing that eludes him is Kanou's reasons for his experiments.

He knows what Kaneki thought. That he was protecting Hide. That if Hide found out the truth he would react badly. They're reasonable enough responses. But Hide is still somewhat hurt that Kaneki believed so thoroughly that he would reject him.]

You thought you were protecting me, right? Geez, Kaneki. You're so hopeless sometimes.

[His words are said kindly, with a smile that takes away the sting of the words themselves. A part of him can't help but feel frustrated at all the time they lost because of this. He could have been helping Kaneki more directly if only one of them had spoken up. But he'd thought that Kaneki would tell him eventually. And he definitely hadn't planned for Kaneki to go missing.

But Kaneki's next words wipe the grin from his face. He frowns, staring at his friend intently. Did he really not know?]

No, I don't. Of course not. It's like I told you, you're still you. If anyone is a monster it's...[Kanou.]...the one who did this to you.
dimidiampura: (▷ Lost in reason and rationality)

[personal profile] dimidiampura 2015-03-19 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
[ It's precisely the very possibility of CERES being dangerous that would get him wanting to help out. Did it matter to him if they ran this whole city? Not one bit. He knew he himself was dangerous as well and that wasn't a thing to be taken lightly in the overall picture.

Especially seeing as with what had happened prior with their arrival and the very real idea that if their worlds weren't gone - and as Hide said - they were still in bad shape and this meant that protectiveness was rising. This was indeed real and this meant that if he could, he'd want to protect his friend from anything that could hurt him as he knew from experience that Hide could get a touch overzealous when he found things that got his interest piqued. ]

Yeah. I wouldn't doubt that.

[ Though admittedly he's had thoughts and questions running around his head that all came back to asking why him? Why was it him who was allowed to be here and not Touka, Hinami or the others from Anteiku? He pushed those thoughts away once more to focus on the one who was here in front of him, being made to realize in a way that he shouldn't have done so much to push him away; those words were solid proof of that and he knew it.

Honestly he did do it for protection. Protection and fear that he'd hurt someone he considered to be one - if not the most - important person to him.

Not considering that it could actually hurt the one in question in trying to keep things from him. Knowing now that Hide really did know about him from all the way back then, he wished he could have caught on and perhaps said something but hesitated in that if he did so, Hide could have been caught up in the whole Aogiri thing and he didn't want that. ]

...I'm sorry, Hide. I know i'm still... as hopeless as ever, but... I didn't say anything before because what if me telling you about what I was got you involved in things and you ended up hurt because of it?

[ It wasn't much but it was at least a minor insight to his real thoughts, expression withdrawn and almost seeming hurt himself as he came into realizing his friend's feelings even if only by a little. Things could never be completely the same between them but it was something he'd like if it was even remotely possible by any means, though he'd never voice it aloud.

Only when Hide speaks again does it start hitting him just how much that Hide might know about his circumstances because few did know who it was that had done this to him. Even if hidden beneath this was a small sense of joy he felt due to Hide confirming that he really didn't think of him any less than when he'd still been completely human. ]

He is. I can never forgive him for what he's done...

[ He regards his friend calmly, watching through his pale white bangs as if gauging something he wasn't outright saying. Watching him but his gaze isn't at all sharp by any means. ]

Since you know about what I am... what else do you know regarding all of this?

[Hide might get a touch overzealous at times, but he can take care of himself. He had been able to track Yamori without anyone being the wiser. He'd found a way inside the CCG and hit a stroke of luck when Marude promoted him. He might not be as physically strong or fast as Kaneki is now, but that's why his plan of attack isn't to storm CERES' building looking for information.

This sort of thing calls for something more subtle. A level of intrigue that Hide has accustomed himself to in the past year. The point is to not allow them to know how suspicious they are. Which is why they should probably steer clear of talking about this in such an open and public environment after this point.]

But you have to admit, this place isn't bad. [Aside from its horrible movie choices. He'd be renting movies from now on thanks.] The city is certainly lively. Kind of reminds me of home.

[Hide wonders what has become of the other people back home too. He hopes that CERES just hasn't gotten around to fixing their codes yet. That there still remains a chance that he'll see Amon-san, Mado-san, and Seidou-san again. He hasn't been completely truthful with them, but that doesn't mean he wishes them ill. They're fine people who care about their jobs, even if Hide disagrees with their feelings towards ghouls as a whole.

He knows that Kaneki had the best of intentions. He doesn't begrudge him for trying to protect Hide. But it does sting that while Kaneki thought it was best to keep him away from his involvement with ghouls, he never once thought that perhaps Hide could help him. He might not stand a chance against a ghoul in a fight, but he does have other abilities at his disposal.

If he hadn't have had to pour over every piece of news he could get about ghoul activity and Aogiri he would have been able to provide more help, instead of taking so long trying to put pieces together that he had no actual proof for. By trying to keep him from getting involved Kaneki shut him out and made getting involved Hide's only choice. How could he step back and live with himself when he knew that Kaneki was in so much trouble?]

Kaneki...[He sighs and looks away. There's just so much that Kaneki doesn't know. Things he doesn't realize.] I'm always going to be involved. You're my best friend. If people are trying to hurt you...it's my business too.

[He knows that their relationship will never be exactly how it was. Especially once everything is out. They might see each other a bit differently. But he believes that, no matter what, they will always be friends. Nothing could make him turn against his friend.

Hide wonders how much Kaneki knows about Kanou. Clearly, by the way he's speaking, he must know something. Maybe he knows why Kanou experimented on him in the first place. That had been one thing he and Mado-san hadn't been able to figure out.]

You shouldn't. He had no right to do this to you.

[Hide meets his eyes readily, expecting what would come next. He's not sure how to broach the topic himself, so he's actually relieved that Kaneki is doing it for him.]

I know you were kidnapped by a ghoul organization named Aogiri. The CCG's raid on their base? It happened earlier than expected because someone called in an anonymous tip about their location. That was me.

[He watches his friend's face closely as he speaks, waiting for a reaction.]
