Mystery Science Theatre -3000

Welcome to Cerealia's latest attraction. In an effort to branch into other forms of entertainment, CERES has been slowly patching together films from various worlds to show in its brand new movie theater. So, grab a friend, sit back, and enjoy the newest batch of imported films with a nice bucket of popcorn. As you'll notice from the long line outside, it's the latest rage in the colony, and those tired of the same virtual battles in ViViD are eager to enjoy a little change in scenery.

For those eager to participate, you will find yourself being lead into the lobby by one of the many robotic theater employees. Showing today are five special films, and in the lobbies are various screens advertising them through the movie's digital avatar, Mnemosyne. Allow her to take you on a virtual tour of CERES' finest theatrical offerings.

(( P.S. no actual actors/actresses appear in any of the films. It's all done through advanced CGi-technology and voice acting. ))
"GOOD EVENING, MOVIE-GOERS. I AM MNEMOSYNE, YOUR GUIDE FOR THIS EVENING.

AS YOU CAN SEE, WE HAVE SEVERAL CONCESSIONS FOR YOU. PLEASE PARTAKE IN THE CONCESSIONS, BUT DO NOT MAKE A MESS. THE THEATER ROBOTS HAVE BEEN PROGRAMMED TO TAKE ACTION FOR LITTERING.

THEATER I
[ 00:00 ] MY PETITE EQUESTRIAN EXPERIENCE - RATED A

Advertised as a delightful tale of ponies discovering magic and friendship, this is a must-see! For adults that is. The ponies are killed within the first ten minutes, and then the rest of the run time is filled with a celebratory orgy of Roman-esque proportions. There are no mentions of ponies after the initial scene. They are neither seen nor mourned nor heard from. There are only naked, gyrating bodies as far as the eye can see.

If you manage to sit through the horror long enough, you will notice a certain something in between the moaning. Is that your face on one of the protags? Is it a beloved family member or a friend? You will find that spliced between the scenes are cherished and innocent childish memories now being soiled by passionate cries of pleasure. Enjoy the new memory, your poor, sweet summer child. This will only be visible to the viewer himself/herself.
THEATER II
[ 00:00 ] LARGE ADVENTURER 7 - RATED B

A touching tale of dealing with loss and more loss. This film is about a giant robot and his pet human that gets eradicated in the Third Robotic Genocide, leaving behind just a human carcass. The giant robot clings to the carcass and cries robotic tears until finally he chucks the carcass into a river full of carcasses and decides to go on a deep quest in search of cheese.

But spliced between this tale of woe, viewers will see images of themselves caught in a romantic memory. A first kiss, perhaps? A first love-making session? A first crush? A desired one will also have their face molded on top of all the carcasses as they flow away. This will only be visible to the viewer himself/herself.

THEATER III
[ 00:00 ] THE RETALIATORS: ERA OF RADICALON - RATED C

Agent Dick Angry takes it upon himself to assemble a team of miscreant aliens to invade the hell out of "Planet Earth." The aliens include Zorn, an intelligent toaster; Crisis, a blue-skinned beauty that turns purple when she's aroused; Trish, a rogue miniature ficus with a criminal record; and General Cerealia, a handsome, ripped man who beats evil-doers with his laptop and who looks suspiciously like CERES' programmer, Elias.

This adventurous romp will feature the tragic memories of death interweaving with the destruction of the "Planet Earth." Those who attend will see first-hand the memories of their own worlds slowly being demolished before their eyes and all their loved ones screaming in agony. Then it'll loop itself again and again for the last hour of the film. Enjoy! This will only be visible to the viewer himself/herself.
THEATER IV
[ 00:00 ] DECEASE HARDER II - RATED D

Jack McJack is a cop who is having none of your shit. In this action film, he will ride around on a velociraptor and go around punching evil-doers and detonating them with land mines. If you want all the violence in the world, this is the film for you. Watch as every second is filled with pointless explosions and every curse word in all the known languages in Cerealia.

Of course, spliced between every action scene will be every embarrassing moment of your life being played out for you and only you. Or is it? Start sweating and looking in every direction as you begin to wonder if everyone else can see that time you tripped and fell on your senpai almost kissing him (sacre bleu D= !)
BONUS - THEATER V
[ why:o'clock ] YARD-DOOR PEOPLE OF QUESTIONABLE MORALS - RATED Z

This is a touching film about tenderness and coming together to overcome obstacles and achieve greatness. The Yard-Door people run into danger when an evil megalord starts polluting the air with negative feelings. The Yard-Door people must band together and save the world through kindness. They will go and help their neighbors get across the street, rake up leaves from their lawns, donate canned food to the poor, and collect toys for children who do not have any.

While this film will draw tears from your eyes, you will see happy memories. The happiest that can be mustered. They will be spliced in with the scenes in the movie, occurring side-by-side with all the smiles and fuzzy feelings leaking off the screens. This will only be visible to the viewer himself/herself.

Also, beware! This film contains the angriest of Theater Cleaning Robots. Dropping anything on the floor will result in a bit of a flogging with a wooden paddle and a robot calling you a dirty slut and claiming that you like it. Yes, BDSM robots will not take your bad behavior. You better bend over and start apologizing for being such a filthy, little theater-goer.

[ Dutifully and without missing a step, she follows him out of the auditorium. As the sounds of pleasure fall away, Pyrrha finds herself feeling considerably more at ease. ]

Me neither. I suppose it’s a good lesson to always read the fine print here.

[ She’s already had the inauguration talk but much of this world is still a mystery to her. ]
masakados: don't take (what do you want to believe?)

[personal profile] masakados 2015-03-08 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
[Phew. Out of there. Naoki stretches his arms in front of him in relief, shaking his head.]

They musta wrote it in the finest print they could. [And frankly it's decreased his curiosity in these movies, not as though he were super invested to begin with. They were just another thing to check out.]

Oh well. At least we could leave, and there weren't robots there to try and get us to go back in.

[I mean all that either of their incredibly OP selves would have to do would be to crush any robots but]

[ The cinema lobby is considerably brighter, flourescent lights crackling overhead as service bots sweep the floors and dispense popcorn to happy movie-going patrons. ]

Yeah. They look quite busy.

[ Over his shoulder, she notices one of them steadily approaching another person, paddle raised. Well, nothing for it - Without a single twitch or turn of a hair, Pyrrha sends the robot sliding left, away from its target. Only a few feet, with enough finesse to indicate distraction on the robot's part; not her own intervention. ]

We'd be better off avoiding them for now, I think.
masakados: (tied on my skin so hard)

[personal profile] masakados 2015-03-10 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
[Naoki's gaze cuts in that direction too, glancing back to the robot... but then it slides away. Barely enough to be strange, if someone wasn't paying close attention, but there's a strange sense in the air too.

Hmm...]

Then... how about we hunt for somewhere less robot-infested? [And, muttering:] Who thought giving them those things was a good idea, too...?

[personal profile] reuser 2015-03-10 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Please.

[ Lead the way, Mr. Neck Horn. Pyrrha will gladly follow. ]
masakados: (make your own storyline)

[personal profile] masakados 2015-03-11 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
[And Mr. Neck Horn will lead the way gallantly! Or casually. Pretty much.

To a place with chairs that is (thankfully) free of robots and other patrons for the immediate time being. He flops himself into one with a sigh before remembering himself.]

Ah, right. I'm Naoki. I probably shoulda introduced myself sooner. [—before encouraging her to come along with him but hey.]
reuser: (36)

[personal profile] reuser 2015-03-11 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
[ At his introduction, Pyrrha is all smiles and glad intentions. The way he simply approached her and started speaking to her like she was just another person in the crowd is rare and, to Pyrrha, endlessly appreciated. This world may not be her own but she’s learning that it’s a world where no one knows her. That’s - something. ]

Nice to meet you, Naoki.

[ It takes her a moment to remember that it's necessary to reciprocate the introduction, but only a moment. ]

I’m Pyrrha Nikos. I only just arrived here a little while ago.
masakados: (i can see the symbol)

[personal profile] masakados 2015-03-12 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
[He mouths her name to himself after she introduces herself, but not out of recognition, just-- that's an interesting name with interesting pronunciation. He's never heard much like it, the closest to it some of the names of the demons back home.]

Yeah? I thought you had that vibe.

[But, Naoki's expression scrunches.] This place is terrible at first impressions. [And, he meant to ask sooner, but:] You doing all right?
reuser: (88)

[personal profile] reuser 2015-03-13 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I’m fine. [ And, not missing a beat: ] Thank you, though.

[ There’s nothing disingenuous about her appreciation, either. It’s a kind person who takes the time to ask after a stranger and Pyrrha’s grateful to be in the company of one such. It enables to settle a little easier, shoulders less drawn and taut. ]

Is it always so - [ for lack of a better word, ] - exciting?
masakados: (feelings i had no intention)

[personal profile] masakados 2015-03-14 01:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Exciting's one word for it.

[Naoki rubs his hand against his neck.] If I had to say, it goes between strange or potentially dangerous (or both) every couple of weeks. In-between that, there's not as much going on.

[But yes, events...]

[ That... doesn’t sound too different from life in Beacon, honestly. Physical danger, at least, is something Pyrrha is prepared for. She imagines this Naoki is as well. ]

Is this one of those ‘events’?

[ Casting her eyes around the cinema, robots and milling arrivals alike. ]
masakados: (even though i’ve realized the truth)

[personal profile] masakados 2015-03-17 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
[Thoroughly and completely, danger and fighting are how he lived--]

I dunno. They were making a big to-do about this new theatre and all...

[He looks around doubtfully.]

[personal profile] reuser 2015-03-17 06:59 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Pyrrha follows his gaze, an equal amount of concern in her expression. This definitely doesn’t seem like a place it would be safe to leave Jaune alone in; that alone is enough to make the back of her neck prickle. ]

Did you come here alone?

[ ( -- OR IS YANG WITH YOU. This is Kia’s fault.) ]
masakados: (to the you who is leaving me?)

[personal profile] masakados 2015-03-17 07:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[(No if they came here together they'd still be with each other rn tbh--)]

Yeah. I didn't figure that I'd be here for long; I just wanted to see what was up, if there was anything more to this...

[Naoki trails off to glance at her.] What about you? --you look [and feel] like you're worried. A friend?
reuser: (32)

Wow, I completely bungled my HTML up there...

[personal profile] reuser 2015-03-17 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Pyrrha considers the question before nodding, and the gesture is a little sad. ]

I wasn't really prepared to hear all those things about Remnant— I mean, my world.

[ Half an answer, half not. It hasn't really sunk in yet, but if her team isn't there, then they must be - ]
masakados: (haven’t we been forced)

[personal profile] masakados 2015-03-18 12:45 pm (UTC)(link)
[Naoki's mouth tightens for a moment—]

I'd like to meet the person who would be prepared. [Wry humour aside, though.] But... I can't believe it, about my own world. [And it's said less in the sense of it being too much to be able to take in, no, it's said in the sense he can't and won't believe it, in a sort of stubbornness.

Because it was already destroyed.]

[ Pyrrha watches him, noting the odd turn his expression takes but not coming to any real conclusions. Whatever he’s feeling, thinking, it’s not for her to ask - he’d volunteer the information if he really wished to discuss it. – Right?

Shifting a bit, she finds herself wishing she had more experience talking to people. ]

Yet you don’t sound very optimistic.

[ An invitation, nothing more. He can talk about it if he wishes and she’ll listen, but she won’t force the issue. ]
masakados: (that sparkle in my thoughts)

[personal profile] masakados 2015-03-18 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
[It's nothing that's a secret, really—

It's more that it tends to bring down conversations that he hesitates to bring it up. But here, it doesn't seem like too bad of a thing to say, and he glances to her while spreading his hands apart.]

...My world was already destroyed. If, I don't know, I was an alien race focused on destroying worlds, I wouldn't go after one that was a recently-destroyed wasteland full of demons. [In fact, what would the Vortex World even look like from space?]
reuser: (41)

[personal profile] reuser 2015-03-21 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
[ She holds his gaze, but there’s no impatience in it. Just the opposite, in fact. Politely, she waits out his answer until the end. ]

Maybe they’re eradicating any possible threats.

[ Her response is thoughtfully given. She’d err on the side of sympathy, but - it sounds like he’s made his peace. “Demons,” he said; it’s not a word Pyrrha knows, not exactly. Some sort of survivalist species? With no other possibility open to her, she’s picturing Grimm. ]

You said your world was destroyed, but you know the state of it after. It sounds like you survived the end of your world. [ And the demons couldn’t be mobilized the same way as him. If they’re as animalistic as Grimm… A crease appears in Pyrrha’s brow as she works through her thoughts. ]
masakados: (want from me?)

[personal profile] masakados 2015-03-22 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
[He nods, though still with some uncertainty. There's a possibility, but, hrm. Somehow, he can't see the Vortex World, Kagutsuchi and Lucifer destroyed so simply.]

...Yeah, I did. What happened in my world's called the "Conception". It's where a world is destroyed, changed into something called a Vortex World filled with demons, and then eventually one person can recreate it according to their own philosophy.

[He explains it easily enough, though there's the minutest of furrows between his eyebrows.]

I was...in a safe place when it happened, so I survived, along with some other people.

[ The mythology of it is completely alien to her, but Naoki explains his world’s end in a way that’s easy enough to follow. There were stories back on Remnant - comic books and TV shows modeled after the concept he’s claimed to live. A wasteland, a barren world, survival overtaking life. It’s chilling, to know such a thing can be true. Her gaze softens, the necessary sharpness of alacrity fading into something far more sympathetic. ]

They may have been looking for something different than you or I would have considered. These “Flamines” - it’s possible they just don’t think like we do.

[ With a self-deprecating quirk to a barely there smile, she shakes her head. ]

I don’t think we’re getting answers any time soon.
masakados: (staring into your eyes)

[personal profile] masakados 2015-03-23 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
[Naoki nods slowly, because she's not wrong. But at the same time, he's unwilling to believe what CERES has told him and everyone else here. If it were destroyed, then what? He has to wait until someone else fixes his broken world for him? Even if it were the case, he couldn't possibly be content with that.]

I don't think so either.

I don't think we should stop looking for them, but we might have to wait until some kind of opportunity shows up. Until then, we can work on the questions we can answer.
reuser: (1)

[personal profile] reuser 2015-03-24 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
[ There is definitely wisdom in what he says. Comfortably, Pyrrha leans back. ]

So, uh— What sort of thing do you do for fun around here?

[ Maybe a change of subject is due. It's a question he (probably) can answer, if nothing else. ]
masakados: (but I’ve already forgotten the names)

[personal profile] masakados 2015-03-25 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
Me? [Naoki chews a corner of his mouth.] Well... I play in ViViD, train, explore the colony, go to the library...

[He stops.]

Listing those off kinda makes me feel like a recluse. [All of these solo activities... Yang's right, he's too lone wolf.] But I know there're all other kinds of places. Restaurants, cafes, parks...

[ It sounds suspiciously like home the way he describes it. Or, at the very least, like a place that could be a home. A place to settle, offering a life and not jus an existence. If their worlds truly were destroyed, well - it could be worse. Maybe. Feasibly.

Pleasantly, and without too much overt force, Pyrrha probes him for details about life in this colony as I carry us to a respectful fade-to-black! (It's for the good of mankind.) ]
