Okay, Edgeworth's first impression of Athena is that she's an excitable, cheerful sort (GEE WHERE HAS HE ENCOUNTERED THOSE BEFORE) and honestly he wouldn't have pegged her as a defense attorney were it not for the badge she wore. That badge leads on to the fact that she's from his world, from somewhere there and maybe even from somewhere in the timeline because time is actually a weird fickle thing. Now his interest is piqued and he wants to know more about her and in the process, know more about the time period she comes from especially since she knows Phoenix.
He's glad to hear from her that Phoenix has returned to the law lyfe but he has his reservations as to how he is as a boss, because what Edgeworth truly knows from his canon point is that the only person Phoenix is the boss of is Maya. Not only that, Edgeworth can't see how Athena is as an attorney and in the process, indirectly see how Phoenix does as the boss of a law firm because none of them can practice law here just yet. Still, from what he knows of Athena, she isthe diligent, never-give-up type even though her personality can be a bit overwhelming. Not to mention the whole throwing-people-who-grab-her.
On the whole, though, she seems dependable and genuinely passionate about what she does especially since she was concerned about not being able to practice law at ol' cereals. Edgeworth would like to get to know her better not just to satisfy his curiosity about this future beyond Phoenix-in-a-beanie future but also because his current impression of her is that she's a good person who just needs to be reeled in sometimes when she gets too...well, in over her head.

What Edgeworth admires about Oz is the boy's energy and spirit, and how he can still smile despite having gone through a lot a.k.a. MURDERGAME FUNTIMES. That shows some serious inner strength and a determination to keep moving forward even though Oz has found himself in yet another world that isn't his own. He's a very interesting individual and someone Edgeworth doesn't mind talking to because even though Oz is cheerful, he isn't sickeningly or overly cheerful or invades his personal space. It's a tolerable level of cheerfulness. Anyway, Edgeworth foresees being able to learn from Oz not just stuff about sick alternate worlds but also about real strength.
Plus, Oz seems to have a good head on his shoulders. From what Edgeworth has seen of him so far, he thinks that Oz isn't the type to let this chipper attitude blind him to reality - well, he certainly didn't try to whitewash his experiences in murdergameland. Edgeworth doesn't look for whitewashed facts so this is all good to him. WE'LL MAKE A DETECTIVE OUT OF YOU YET, YOUNG PADAWAN - I mean.
Kaoru AH YES EDGEWORTH IS STILL TRAPPED. He thinks Kaoru is this gentle, refined, respectful, reserved and sensible young woman (LIES!) who agrees with him on so many levels. Cerealia is a crazy place, the CEO is useless and doesn't talk to his ~loyal subjects~ enough, etc. It's great that they can see eye to eye on a lot and they haven't argued about anything. Honestly, it feels...liberating, almost refreshing, to be able to talk comfortably with Kaoru and know that someone is willing to listen to his opinions and agree with them. And who could go wrong with a teabuddy? Kaoru likes tea. THE SUPERIOR BEVERAGE. THIS WAS MEANT TO BE.
Yes, Kaoru DID prank him that one time during the tarot event, but Edgeworth, while disgruntled with how his device was acting up and playing crazy 80's songs, has decided to attribute this prank to the effects of the card, not believing that Kaoru himself would be able to conceive such a NEFARIOUS SCHEME. That's actually how much Edgeworth thinks of Kaoru - he trusts Kaoru to keep a cool yet opinionated head in any situation and to also be a sounding board. Maybe he doesn't think of Kaoru as a friend yet, but he thinks of him as a very good acquaintance at this point.

Though he worries about the kind of trouble she could get herself into and wishes he could veto all her potentially dangerous and questionable choices, the other side of him will admit that she is capable and while she messes around sometimes, she can get down to business
and defeat the Hunsand be very useful in investigations and stuff. Plus, it helps that they both agree that Ruby must be kept out of trouble and that this place is bananas and the CEO is likewise bananas. So they are on the same wavelength for certain things.no subject

Obviously Edgeworth wouldn't just treat her like any other person, but not because she's royalty. He respects her and treats her properly like any gentleman should simply because she is an impressive young lady - sensible, calm, well-versed in healing and fighting. Even though she still has a bit to learn about shopping and living a life outside her own world, he has confidence that she'll get the hang of it. But as for cooking...well, maybe as long as she listens to the people teaching her (and listens to Edgeworth if he teaches her about tea), she should be fine, right? Right? Well...if she asks him for help, he can't refuse her.

Plus, he doesn't go easy on Edgeworth, which is 100% okay with him because he really has to hone his skills and continue to fight if he is to survive here and be more useful than just be a dinky police department secretary. Edgeworth isn't looking for special treatment or someone to please ease up on the sparring a bit pls. He's looking for a sparring partner/teacher who would really present a challenge and help him grow as a fighter, and Sousei is just what the doctor ordered.

Ryuko reminded Edgeworth of Rhoda Teneiro, that flight attendant who was smiling so stiffly when they first met. He prefers her as an outspoken, if rather brash young girl instead of a fake perky smiling one because this place could always use more outspoken people even though said outspoken people can be...er, rough and not just around the edges. But he has to admire how she's not just throwing in the towel in her job and is chugging through it even though - and here he's guessing - she must prefer another job over making juice for people. He hopes she doesn't do anything impulsive because if given the opportunity, Edgeworth could see her making such a decision in the future. But this is still all up in the air and for now he's good with getting to know her better and what makes her tick.

He was Edgeworth's mentor and the man he aspired to become. Manfred gave him what he thought was a glimmer of hope in the most desperate of situations - the hope of becoming a prosecutor and stopping any other criminals from escaping justice the way the killer of DL-6 did. Edgeworth clung to that hope and followed the path of von Karma, but would learn later on that Manfred had his own agenda in the end - to exact revenge on both Edgeworth Senior and Edgeworth Junior. Everything Edgeworth believed in was dashed to pieces and that left him wondering where else to turn, and forging his own path in the end.
That's not to say he's ungrateful. Edgeworth IS grateful for everything Manfred taught him but now he's using it all for the truth, and properly. He's grateful for being shown how NOT to walk the prosecutor's path. He remains respectful in a civil way toward Manfred, although it's hard to hang on to that especially now that he's facing Manfred here again. There's anger for what Manfred has done to ruin his life, barely contained anger, especially now that Edgeworth has solved the IS-7 incident once and for all. However, Edgeworth does have his boundaries and does not want to see Manfred die here so far from home, or be hurt. He's not THAT heartless. If he has to, he will protect Manfred but mostly that will be because of his own convictions, not because of anything Manfred has done for him.
