Ryuko is used to having crazy and upbeat people around her life, so when she got to know Ai it was almost like uncharted territory for her. It genuinely baffles her how somebody like Ai seems to have such a submissive personality, but it doesn't grate on Ryuko or anything. It's an endearing trait in a weird way, because her need to please others is sweet and innocent. Ryuko may not be anything like that, but she can still appreciate kindness when she sees it, and Ai is a beautiful person inside and out.

If anything, when Ryuko pushes Ai to stand her ground more, she does it out of concern for the girl rather than because it's a pain in the ass or something. She's a bit worried that Ai's kindness would get taken advantage of, and Ryuko can't always be there since she has her own battles to fight. Sometimes Ryuko teases her by saying things like "don't screw this up", which Ai seems to take to heart, but it's all in jest and hopes that Ai will loosen up eventually.

At the end of the day, Ai is the Yin to Ryuko's Yang. The girl softens her heart each time they're together while Ryuko tries to harden her friend's, but hopefully in a positive way. She's a delight!

Lee is almost like a male version of Mako, complete with the bowlcut and over excitement. The difference is because he's a guy, Ryuko finds it easier to make fun of him for his theatrics. Make no mistake, however, Ryuko would still protect him in the same way she would any of her close friends, even if Lee is more than capable himself.

Ryuko is generally hostile or stand-offish to most guys, but what works in Lee's favour is that he's not like most males she has come across in her life. He's not perverted, he's not cocky and he's extremely loyal, perhaps to a fault. That's how she sees him, at least. Sure, he's extremely naive, but that's never been a ground of reason to dislike somebody. If anything, his childlike naivete is charming.

Being around him relaxes Ryuko and lets her forget about whatever is irritating her on the day. ...Unless he is the source of irritation by burning her ramen!

What Archer said about Ryuko being the underdog hero wasn't always true about her. There was a time when she was arguably an anti-hero, the only reason she would even save the day was because she was fighting for herself and not anyone else. Ryuko thinks if Archer knew the value of humans and friendship, just like she learned, he wouldn't be such a pain in the ass!

To Ryuko, Archer is the typical cocky guy who thinks he's a hot shot and talks down on everybody else. Even if he says he's the lowest, it only confuses her because he'll insult her pride by refusing to drink a smoothie she made. Whether or not the insult is intentional on his part, Ryuko is a hothead who holds grudges! What really confuses her more than that, though, is when she catches glimpses of his good side, such as looking out for Rin & Saber, and letting Ryuko take the party food home. Unfortunately, even confusion slowly morphs into irritation when you're Ryuko Matoi, and the only way she knows how to let it out is by lashing at Archer.

At the very least, she doesn't outright hate Archer, since they're able to have decent conversations, too. If anything, their bickering almost seems endearing? For all their trash talking, Ryuko would often do it with the hint of a smirk, rather than intent to kill or anything.

It's funny how Saber's impression of Ryuko is "strange", since that is pretty much what Ryuko thinks of Saber, too. She speaks in that matter-of-fact tone and some of her vocabulary sounds ancient. Despite those bumps, however, she is a pleasant personality to be with. Saber radiates that undying resolve like Satsuki, except it's not as fucking blinding so of course Ryuko appreciates that!

The only thing that bothers her is that Saber thinks being a Servant and a friend to Rin are mutually exclusive. She understands that Saber is bound by oath, but friends can fight for each other, too. At the very least, Ryuko wishes to offer her own friendship, so that Saber doesn't define herself as a "mere Servant". She can be a loyal Servant, but there is more value in Saber than that, she's kind-hearted and Ryuko is always happy to repay that.

They definitely need to fight side by side at one point, however, because only then would they truly know each other. The way they perceive each other right now is almost awkward; they are warriors first, not these people pretending to live normal lives. Smoothies and maid outfits aren't for them, they're meant to save this world! ...at least that's what Ryuko would say.

And for the record, Ryuko thinks Saber is quite a looker, too. if only she didn't talk like a grandma

Hahah, you know despite the way Ryuko acts around Inaba, she doesn't really dislike her at all. Inaba is a tough girl, so that only means that Ryuko is free to be her usual crude self without worrying if she'll offend her... not that Ryuko worries much about these things regardless, but it's still a plus.

The worst (or best??) part about their CR is that they got off on the wrong foot due to card shenanigans, and Ryuko is the type who never forgets a loss. It may also not work in Inaba's favour that she's a school council girl, vice president or otherwise, given Ryuko's bad track record with those types. However, Ryuko also ended up becoming friends with those people, so there's no reason she can't be with Inaba either, especially when Inaba's not even trying to kill her or anything!

Overall, Inaba comes across as a smart girl who stands her ground despite overwhelming odds against her, and Ryuko has to respect that. Now can she copy her homework?

Ryuko, please... Thankfully Inaba isn't the type of person who would hurt people unless they immensely piss her off. Then she will get her revenge somehow.

And no, Ryuko, she won't let you copy her homework, even if you ask nicely. :|

To Ryuko, Vietnam comes across as an old soul, but in a very positive way. She seems to have strong emotional stability (at least compared to a hothead like Ryuko) and speaks with kindness in her words. There's a certain mystique about her that Ryuko can't put her finger on, but it makes her all the more interesting to hang out with.

There's nothing like bonding with somebody in the middle of a dangerous (?) fight, though. Vietnam may want to spend a normal day with her, which Ryuko would certainly appreciate, but secretly she enjoyed partnering up with somebody to take down an enemy, and hopes they face more precarious situations together. She's also one of the few people who have seen her Synchronized form, which is not a side of her that many people see in Cerealia, so it only makes her feel closer to Vietnam. The fact that Vietnam is cool with it makes Ryuko feel less alien about herself, but not by much, since Vietnam also doesn't know that she carries some evil alien DNA in herself! She would like to tell her someday, but not until Ryuko stops rejecting that part of her herself.

To sum it up, Vietnam has Ryuko's trust, and perhaps some admiration... however trust is a much bigger deal when you're Ryuko Matoi. BUT... she was totally being weird when Astorbot massaged her there for a second. WHAT'S UP WITH THAT, VEE?

Also she'll be totally chill with Ryuko telling her about her evil alien DNA 8( It's not like she doesn't know anything about whacko backgrounds hohoho. She'll even help and everything /flexes.

AND SHHHH WE DON'T TALK ABOUT ASTORBOT she's so ashamed.

MAH SOUL SISTER~~

Much like Athena thinks of Ryuko as a sister, Ryuko would also say that Athena is like the sister she never had... if she hadn't found out that she has a biological sister. Even so, Athena is pretty much Ryuko's rock here, she's the one person who's kind of keeping her grounded in this insane world. Initially, Ryuko let Athena in her life because she seemed nice and perhaps helpless. She wanted to protect Athena from bad people in an unknown world, but somehow it's almost like Athena is the one looking after Ryuko most of the time.

Because of their sisterly dynamic, Ryuko strangely finds herself seeking Athena's approval at times, something she has never really cared about all her life. Athena helps around so much with her two jobs and cooking, that Ryuko feels like she needs to do something to be useful, too. She really respects Athena, for her wits, her beauty, and her ability to make friends so easily... something Ryuko is terrible at! Ryuko would easily admit that between the two of them, Ryuko is lucky to have Athena, and not so much the other way around!

There is a part of Ryuko, deep down in her heart, that's legitimately frightened of what Athena would think if she found out she wasn't 100% human. Athena may not know about the parasitic Life Fiber aliens that feed on humans in Ryuko's world, but Ryuko certainly knows, and the fact that she was infused with some of that DNA inside her makes her feel like a monster. If Athena were to feel the same way about Ryuko, even if Ryuko knows Athena is better than that, the possibility of it still breaks her heart. But if Athena doesn't know who Ryuko really is, then can their friendship really be authentic based on her perception of Ryuko alone? These are the kind of things Ryuko tries not to think about, and part of the reason she keeps many people in Cerealia at arm's length. Truthfully, she's really grateful that Athena is the kind of person who wants to be Ryuko's friend even if Ryuko were to push her away, because those are the kind of people she needs most in her life.
