Tonight, We're Going to Party Like It's 1899

With Hallow's Eve rapidly approaching, the famed Cerealia night club Niteo has been transformed into a Victorian gothic wonderland for its Masquerade party sponsored by CERES' CEO Julius Vincere. Everyone is required to attend with at least a mask on (though full costume is preferable). For those who don't have any, they will be given a mask at the door.

Several young women and men in Victorian-era clothing will be moving around, handing out drinks and pulling guests to dance out on the ballroom floor. Don't be shy, come join them. Anachronistic techno music will be blasting through the speakers, and the side tables will be stocked with all sorts of candy and treats for guests to snack on.

As you first enter, a mysterious masked employee is the first to greet you:

"Welcome, one and all, to Niteo's All-You-Can-Eat-and-Drink Night of a Thousand Ghouls. Tonight, we'll be treating you now that the ghosts have all vanished.

But where have they gone you must be wondering? It's a mystery indeed. They couldn't have just vanished like that. Someone had to have gotten rid of them? …I wonder…

While you think on it, relax and have a drink or ten. Don't let a couple of hauntings stop you from having a good time. Tonight is a night to celebrate excess and indulgence. Let us surrender to our baser urges."

PHASE I
[ 20:00 ] The evening begins promptly at 8:00 PM. There will be crowds gathered, lining up to get in. Everyone will be allowed, children, adults, the living and flesh-filled, the robotic, and the undead. The music will be thumping as far as the sidewalks outside, and the first thing everyone will notice would be bowls of candy everywhere as far as the eyes can see. They'll be sitting on top of the tables in all their innocent glory. For the most part, they are harmless.

But not the candy corn. Never the candy corn. Within it is a secret chemical that causes those who consume it to exhibit attraction to the nearest object/person to them, whether it be inanimate or otherwise. They will feel compelled to be close, to kiss and touch whatever is around them, though the effects only last an hour or so. Consider it a low-leveled aphrodisiac of sorts.
PHASE II
[ 21:22 ] You're dancing. You're moving to the music. Or you're clinging to the walls and wondering why you're even here to begin with. That's when the holograms start playing around with you. The image flickers frequently until a face appears. You can swear it's talking to you beneath the music.

'We need you. We want you. Join us. Come to the back room. Number 005.'

The closer you get to the hologram screens, the louder the voice becomes until it disappears completely, leaving you to question how real it was.
PHASE III
[ 22:17 ] For those brave enough, you go into Backroom #005. What awaits you there is a room full of masked and costumed figures. You don't know if they are human or not, but they watch you eagerly, inviting you to join their private party. Unfortunately, if you chose the backroom, you chose wrong. You chose very wrong. The door is going to be slammed shut and locked, and all the figures will then pull off their masks and reveal faces familiar to yourself. Faces from your world. They'll ask you accusingly why you haven't saved them yet. What's taking you so long. Did you forget them?

Their eyes will glow as they crowd in on you, yelling and growing more caustic until the lights flicker. When you can see clearly again, the entire room will be empty save for a single glass of wine sitting on the table. You'll be sure someone was inside just a moment ago. You were definitely talking to someone. You can't be going crazy, right?
PHASE IV
[ 23:45 ] Fifteen minutes to midnight. The music is getting louder and more intense. You've been eating candy or drinking all night (or avoiding food entirely if you're wise enough). Yet the music lures you in with its haunting tone, and you spot in the middle, a masked figure dancing more hypnotically than the rest. He's waving his chainsaw around as he puts out his lethal dance moves, and you are being drawn by the music into a violent dance off. You can fight the feeling, you can try and run. Unfortunately, none of the other natives and robots see the masked man but you. Only outsiders can see him, and the closer you get, the more you reach out to touch him-

you discover he's only a hologram like any other. Your fingers move through his shape, and distort it, but you're still so sure it's real.

BONUS
[ why:o'clock ] One of the back rooms has a beautiful fortune teller by the name of Aria. She will be seated inside, welcoming individuals or groups of people to give them their fortunes, and she will be giving them bizarrely specific and intimate details about their life from their underwear preference to how many partners they've slept with and how many moles they have on their ass. Prepare for awkward embarrassment. Ah, but what does the future hold in store? She'll smile when asked, and then her face will fall apart until a drill protrudes from the center to try and stab through your face. If your reflexes are fast enough, you can dodge it. If you're too slow, prepare for a hospital visit to the CERES Medical Facility.

Once that ordeal is over with, her face will reconstruct itself back to normal, and she will smile and say your future looks very bright in CERES.

[The lights are certainly bright and flashy enough, though, signs aside. It's to the point of distraction, especially for someone like Leia... but she'll look around anyway as she steps away from the darkened building where she'd been hiding in the shadows.

She glances down at the card again, like it might give her some kind of clue... but sadly, while it is many things, a map it is not.]

Oh! What about that way? [She points to a sign, beginning with: YOU ARE NOW LEAVING:] I... guess we're in the "Entertainment District."
spyrites: (» hold on a sec here)

[personal profile] spyrites 2015-01-21 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
[... Oh. It seems so obvious to have just looked up, doesn't it... Well, sort of. Okay so they know their current location but in relation to their destination it was... where, exactly? Hmm.

He does follow her gaze for a moment and then after a quick sweep he notices smaller signs on the street corner. They're underneath the "YOU ARE NOW LEAVING" sign so they have to be directions.

He heads towards them without a word but assumes she'll follow him. They aren't that far from where they're standing at least.]

Let's see... [The signs indicted the closest district was the Pleasure District. In the opposite direction was the Shopping District... ah. After that the Residential District.] It should be right from here... but there's another sign here that says there's a train station in that direction too. [Of course he picks up on the fact that there's a train station.] That might be how we can move between districts so we should check that out first and see.
journaler: (✿ oh)

[personal profile] journaler 2015-01-21 06:11 am (UTC)(link)
[Leia of course follows, and peers at the signs right alongside him. They can hear the trains before they even see them, so it doesn't come as a surprise when he mentions a station.]

Good thinking. This place must be a lot bigger than I thought.

[Her eyes start to wander again, every time processing something new... but she finally settles on the direction Jude indicates.

She'd have plenty of time to explore later, after all, seeing as how she's stuck here for the foreseeable future......]

Let's find out when the next train leaves and make sure we get on the right one. There's gotta be others looking for the Residential District, too, so... it shouldn't be that bad!
spyrites: (» all riiiiight)

[personal profile] spyrites 2015-01-23 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
If not we can always just follow the signs. [There were actually a lot of them and as they walk in their desired direction he's noticing more and more. Like Trigleph there were plenty of indications of where to go. So he's sure that the train station will have plenty of signs to tell them which to board and where it'll go.

But now there's some childish excitement in his expression as he continues,]
With all this technology I bet their trains are a lot different than the ones in Elympios. They must really be something. [Jude Mathis, ridiculous train nerd.]
journaler: (✿ last night)

[personal profile] journaler 2015-01-24 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
[Really, Jude...

Leia recognizes the childish excitement in his voice well enough. It makes her turn to study his face as they walk, though she really only gets flashes from whenever they pass by the flashing or brightly lit lights. She smiles and lets out a chuckle under her breath.]

Probably... They sure look big, from what I can see. I bet they're super roomy.
spyrites: (» very good!)

[personal profile] spyrites 2015-01-24 04:32 pm (UTC)(link)
[No don't judge him for his stupid hobbies...]

And fast. I bet they go a lot faster than the ones we've been on. [He can't wait to see just how fast they can go though! And she's right, he bets they're way more roomy than their trains back home. They did look bigger...

When they do actually get to the station he has to keep himself from wander up to the train to examine it. He really wants to but the somewhat grumpy looking conductors and train station attendants don't seem like they'd appreciate it. Indeed they aren't very patient with the two of them and Jude expects they must have had a lot of new people wandering in asking questions. In fact the guy he approaches barely lets him speak and automatically points him to the right train for the Residential District. Well that works too.

But she's right they're a lot roomier than the ones he's familiar with. He's looking around with ever present curiosity. The technology here sure is something though...]
journaler: (✿ i had this dream about you)

[personal profile] journaler 2015-01-27 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
[After the night she's had, the last thing she needs to be thinking about is going fast. Seeing the inside of the train admittedly sparks something inside of her, and admittedly, she's excited, too. Her mouth opens in childlike wonder at how different it all is.

Of course, she's going to head right for a window seat; though sitting in it is another story altogether. She's pressed against the glass, her knees on the seat as she tries to peek at their view outside.]

Wow... [She grins, turning back to Jude and watching the others pour in.] We were right, huh?

I wonder how long the ride will be.
spyrites: (» hold on a sec here)

[personal profile] spyrites 2015-01-29 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
[Jude seats himself quietly in his seat after Leia climbs into hers, glancing around himself. Sure he's excited but he's feeling pretty tried all of a sudden too. All the adrenaline was wearing off and the scale of everything that was going on hit him all at once. He's still pretty confused the more he thinks about it, honestly...

He glances out the window too.]
I'm not sure. It can't be that long. I doubt the individual districts are that big and this train probably goes pretty fast. [He assumes anyway. There's no way to tell since this is their first time here and all.

He closes his eyes.]
Well, we'll find out in any case.
journaler: (✿ so deep in thought)

[personal profile] journaler 2015-01-30 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
[She sighs, sounding almost content for the first time since arriving. His tiredness starts to rub off on him pretty quickly though (rude), not that she'll admit it.]

Yeah.

[Said almost in a yawn...

The chattering from the other riders starts to become more and more distant. Finally, she'll close her eyes, too. She never was good at waiting; and now, as they pull out and pick up speed, her eyes flicker open with interest for only a moment before she starts to drift.]
spyrites: (» heh...)

[personal profile] spyrites 2015-02-02 06:09 pm (UTC)(link)
[He glances back at her, pausing to study her behavior. No she... seemed okay now. Whatever oddity that had occurred at the club had undoubtedly been the club's fault. That was the only explanation since after they'd left she had returned to normal. He's relieved. He thought maybe she'd been sick or something. Now she just looked tired which was understandable. He was tired too.

But in that case he doesn't reply and let's her drift off. If she falls asleep he'll just wake her when they get there. It would be best for her to rest for now.]
journaler: (✿ last night)

[personal profile] journaler 2015-02-03 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
[Fall asleep she does, with the vague sense that he's watching over her as she does so. It's a warm feeling that makes her all too comfortable amidst a sea of strangers, in an even stranger land.

Her head falls heavy against his shoulder, and she sighs again, seeming content.]
