so hiccup thinks sousei exists

but no my god milla and sousei. red!! they're red!! mutually red because even if milla somewhat acts the same around him as she always has, he's absolutely one of her closest people. it's actually terrible because she told herself no, she can't get attached, she's dead and therefore there's no point--but then he happened and she just couldn't stop caring. at this point she's basically accepted that she'll never stop caring, and she's come to terms with the fact that he's Important.

he started off as this confusing gaius clone. he was deathly serious and, even if his way of being commanded attention, Very Awkward. it was funny and annoying at the same time, and she'll never deny that sousei was a pain in the ass. he still is a pain in the ass, honestly, but now it's like... "he's my pain in the ass, i guess", and milla's baffled, frustrated and happy (??) that she let it progress that far. now? she doesn't really think he's a gaius clone. he's sousei, and she thinks she gets him much more than she did before. he's more of an idiot than she thought. he's way softer and way more kind than he lets on. he's... surprisingly sensitive and not some killer Ice Queen. he pushes himself way too hard and it's a headache because if she cares he's not supposed to be this much of a moron. but she cares because he's that much of a moron, so.

she owes a lot to him and she won't ever deny it, because he's been there for a lot of what she's struggled through. she knows a lot about him and he knows a lot about her. facts she wouldn't be comfortable with just anyone knowing, despite the fact that she acts like she's disconnected with everything, that she doesn't care because she doesn't have a reason to. he's close, like elle, but not in the same way... because elle is strong, yes, and milla recognizes that... but there's things that she couldn't and still can't say to her, as she recognizes that elle is... elle. a child. still! elle is milla's anchor, and sousei is too. they both give her reasons to move forward and accept what and who she is. they make her feel like she's more than she actually is--just a "milla clone" who made way too many mistakes, imperfect and selfish and... just a fractured version of what she's supposed to be.

honestly, sousei's the reason she's even okay with being in cerealia now. she wasn't, before. but now part of her is like "well yeah, i am alive right now, and i might leave soon and this might be over soon but i am here right now", and that's because of what he's told her. there's still a fraction of her feelings that are reserved for still being tentative about the connections she makes and the things she does here, and what the point is, but sousei's done well in making her less apologetic about who she is and what she's done.

so. needless to say, she's comfortable with him. there's no sense of tentativeness like she had with the people in nia khera, or the party members in xillia 2 for.... obvious reasons.... (not that she doesn't want to bridge that gap--again, because she's developing and moving past her baggage thanks, in part, to sousei), so sousei is essentially the first person she's met that didn't come with some kind of obligation or hurdle to get over. his opinion is quite valued, as is his company. his well-being. he's an impressive human and she's taken aback by it, sometimes, though she's gotten better at seeing his weaknesses--especially with what she saw during tenka's disappearance.

basically sousei means a lot. if he ever asked her for anything, she'd do it with only minimal complaining--no complaining at all if it was important. she went from not really getting him at all to knowing how he thinks pretty well... at least that's how she feels. if she ever does end up leaving cerealia one of her biggest wishes would be that he's okay with it, if he stays--or just that he's okay in general, because she thinks he deserves to be all right. more than all right, given what she knows about his past....
