Illidan finds Rei to be a very interesting individual. Her magic is something that greatly intrigues him, and while he is fully aware it's not a power he could ever hope to grasp, he still wants to understand it, and thus likes seeing her in action. Since she's a priestess too, something he relates to Tyrande, earns her a lot of respect. Then add in the goddess thing she's like a magic rubix cube he could ponder over forever.

He doesn't find her grating at all either, and understands having a somewhat aloof nature, she is probably the first person to take him seriously.... in about ten thousand years, give or take. So having someone actually hear his story and not start treating him like a madman (at least outwardly) made her someone he felt he could trust and confide in to some degree. He doesn't even mind taking little digs in the pride for her sake, since he knows she won't hold it against him.

So overall he sees her as a comrade, and while he probably wouldn't use the word "friend" ever, she's a friend. He trusts her and would probably be more considerate of her opinions and advice more than most others. So he doesn't look down on her at all, may still think he knows better than she does, but he'd hear her out which is more than can be said about how he handles most other people.
