Rei genuinely respects Sousei.

This is actually saying quite a lot, because she doesn't generally respect or trust men not named Mamoru Chiba even a little bit. The fact that she's willingly opened up even a little bit to him is something even she thinks is important, and it honestly makes her feel like she's changing. And that makes her both like him more, and feel just a touch uncomfortable around him.

As a teacher, he's exactly what she expects. She enjoys the banter between the two of them, and feels that they have a lot in common, which again is extremely rare! She enjoys her classes, and her offer to show him how to use a bow definitely stands as something serious because she wants to reciprocate.

She isn't entirely sure what to make of his seeming lost when his friend vanished though. That worried her, quite a lot.

Well, unfortunately it's those parallels that both draw Rei to Athena and make her worry.

Usagi and Athena do share a lot of traits, and Rei absolutely recognizes them. But unlike Sailor Moon, Athena doesn't have the ability to effectively defend herself, and she keeps seeming to wander into dangerous situations without really thinking her actions through entirely. Rei worries about Athena, and it definitely bothers her that she vanished for several days without a trace (but the lecture on that will have to wait for the resolution of the raid plot!).

Removing the parallel with a certain odango-fan, though? Rei really, really appreciates Athena. She's one of the first friends Rei ever made that wasn't someone tied to her by destiny. Basically, Athena was one of the people that came up to her for no reason and was just nice without wanting anything, and that just doesn't happen. That means more to her than being Sailor Moon, as a person. Because at home? She has friends but they are all magical girls, and while she loves them? One of her dreams is to be able to live normally. Without being judged for her ability, or used for her looks and wealth. Athena and a few others really fill that desire, and she's ever so grateful for it. Minako's appearance did kill the burgeoning crush though, and that's for the better, but it was there.

She does wish Athena would be more open with her though, or at least more trusting. She's extended a lot of trust in Athena, and while she's not worried about it being used against her, she'd like it if Athena was a bit more open with her in turn. It's not every day that she just up and decides to tell someone her secret, after all.

tl;dr? Athena's one of the first normal friends Rei has ever had, in her entire life. She'd leap through fire and fight an army to protect her.

Mostly?

Rei thinks of Hawke as a convenience. If she's willing to help Rei out for something that she finds completely trivial and less than worthless? Then all the better. She's not above using people for her own ends, and while she's curious about Hawke she's not overly interested in close companionship. She seems tough and capable, and those are traits Rei can absolutely respect, but the wariness around anything spiritual and magical isn't lost on her.

And that wariness? Is something of a huge trigger for a lot of Rei's anxieties. She was treated very, very poorly by people growing up because of her spirituality and magical talents (also for having two crows as her only friends), and as a result tends to react very poorly around that sort of thing. That Hawke's not showing it openly helps, but Rei's psychic talents kinda clue her in.

That said? She isn't unwilling to spend time with Hawke if it gets work done, and she'd definitely hire Hawke for other work. And probably help her out of a jam if she needed it.

Rei hates Weebs, moving on.

Though, seriously? Rei is intrigued by Simon. She doesn't really know what to make of him yet but she's willing to give him a chance. Athena vouching for him doesn't hurt, but she's not at all sure of what sort of person he is. In some ways, his dedication to the whole samurai motif is nice, but the way he presents himself isn't quite the same as the real samurai she's met (or the talking sword spirits) in Cerealia. He's definitely someone worth knowing, at least, even if he just seems strange to her. How do you really react to a really tall guy that you know was in prison (she doesn't know why) who seems to live by some melodramatic dramatization of the samurai way?

All that aside, she does like him. The sense she gets from him is that he's pretty alright, and he's someone who's worth his salt. She wouldn't count on him in a standup fight that a Senshi would need to be involved in, but for more mundane problems, she'd definitely trust him to pull through. he seems reliable. And Taka is the bestest.

Rei has FEELINGS about Archer, definitely.

He tries to present himself as a complete and total jerkass, and he absolutely is. But she knows his kind very well, after having to spend several years dealing with Haruka, Queen of the Jerkasses of Uranus. Weirdly, though? She would prefer to deal with that particular kind of jerkass than the kind of jerkass that would lie and cheat. It engenders a kind of trust that she ordinarily wouldn't extend to members of the opposite sex, because she feels she can count on him for an honest (if blunt and laced with sarcasm) opinion of what's going on. He's uncompromising in who he is, and she can respect that.

The fact that he isn't human helps, it lets her relate to him a little bit better, given her own nature, and she feels a little bit safer with him than she might the same sort of person that was entirely human. She doesn't get a sense that he'd judge her for being magical or having power in a modern age, which is a huge anxiety trigger for her.

However, she wishes he'd be a liiiiittle less inclined to treat her like a child. She's got a few millennia of memories.

Illidan is...interesting.

If asked, that would be Rei's immediate response. She actually likes him, because while he's a gigantic, demon-tainted demon-hunter, he's actually been fairly nice to her. His complete lack of attention to her looks (obviously) and disinterest in anything that most men care about is refreshing. He comes across as a well-intentioned but somewhat zealous and foolhardy person, and in some ways she sees those traits as relate-able. She knows that deep down if she was in the same positions Illidan has been put in, she'd have taken the same path. Taking power at personal expense for the greater good is definitely a thing she understands, and even respects. Because duty to one's people comes before the self, always.

Illidan does worry her a little bit, because he seems slightly unstable or simply just...stupid and reckless. Maybe that's ignorance, or maybe it's just brashness, she's not sure, but she definitely wants to help him wise up. Also, Illidan's magical nature is helpful, as she knows he won't judge her for her own spirituality and abilities, which is very often a source of anxiety for her when dealing with "mundane" individuals.

All in all? He's alright and she'd worth with him any day. But he needs to cool it with the needless fights, okay?

Rei's a little conflicted about Inaba.

On the one hand? Inaba is a nice, relatively normal girl who treats her well despite knowing she has some weird spiritual abilities. She likes that, quite a lot. It means a LOT to her knowing that normal people can treat her like a friend.

On the other hand? Inaba's belief about sacrifice and heroism that she kind of went over in that anon conversation? (I'm including this because otherwise it would be short) If she knew that was Inaba, she wouldn't ever speak to her again. That simply flies in the face of every single thing that Rei's fought and died for, and as someone who genuinely considers obsessive love to be something negative? Rei would simply just rather not engage people who think like that. It's Rei's reasoning behind only being willing to become romantically involved with someone like Minako who shares the same duties as her, she understands selfish love on a fundamental level. That's one of her failings, and something she knows about herself, that she'd 'burn up' anyone who stood too close to her, and burn them out in her possessiveness.

That aside? Inaba is a bit sarcastic for her tastes, and while she likes her, she'd be hard pressed to call Inaba a close friend simply because they haven't talked about the things Rei considers meaningful in close friendships.

Illya is a little to new...

WELL this is relatively new CR. But?

Rei likes Hiro. He's pretty okay for a boy! That he's younger helps, and that he's smart also helps, it makes it easier to look past her general misandry and focus more on him as a person. His intellect and eagerness to help out definitely are draws for her and she thinks he's a nice person. His concern about the colony and the monsters was pretty much a solidification in her mind that he was someone worth knowing and paying attention to.

She wants to get to know him better, and will actively make an effort to do so, which is rare enough! Though, Baymax is at least partially to blame for that. It's hard not to love a fluffy marshmallow robot.
faithfulflame: (Rei Do Tell)

[personal profile] faithfulflame 2015-09-05 06:25 am (UTC)(link)
Hhmmmm.

Most of Rei's encounters with Tieria have been in bad situations, so her opinion of him is colored by that. She doesn't know a lot about him as a person, but she does respect his competence. That's saying something, considering how she generally feels about men. The level of technology he uses is pretty amazing, and she finds herself wondering if there is something one of his machines can't do. Haro is of particular interest, because he's the first robot she encountered that wasn't run by CERES or trying to kill her and steal her Star Seed.

As a person? She's cautiously trusting of him, as much as she is any man. She probably won't ever open up entirely to him, because she's really that guarded, but she does think he's a good person and worth spending time with and working alongside.

...That icon why...

Ryuko? Ryuko is a really odd case for Rei. Generally she's the kind of person Rei would've gone out of her way to avoid. However, Cerealia being Cerealia, and Ryuko being literally one of the first people to approach her? Things are a little different. She decided (perhaps this is crazy) to give Ryuko a chance. And that's led her to see Ryuko in a different light.

Ryuko's become one of her closest Cerealia friends. She likes her, she enjoys spending time with her, and it bothers her that Ryuko was sent to jail. It bothers her even more that she was framed like that, and sets her teeth grinding. She appreciates Ryuko's encouragement, and she'd fight tooth and nail to help Ryuko out of a jam. She's surprisingly sweet, and Rei wishes that she could do more to get her to open up a little bit more. She'd go to the mat for Ryuko, frankly, because in a lot of ways she sees a dear friend cast in a darker mold.

It helps that Ryuko doesn't treat her differently despite knowing what she is and what she's capable of. Being seen as normal is comforting as heck and she appreciates that as much as anything else. It's a little odd, maybe, and their relationship is odd but she enjoys the fact that they can nitpick and bicker at one another and have it be a positive thing too.

The only real problem Rei has with Ryuko is her choice of partner. She likes Nonon alright despite her being a little annoying at first, but their most recent thread set off a lot of alarm bells for Rei. Callous disregard for human life is a huge no-no around someone like Rei, and I'm not entirely sure how that's going to go. It doesn't change her opinion or feelings about Ryuko, but it might come up in future conversations.

Hey Jack.

Rei likes Jack. A lot. Despite her actions which are mostly because she doesn't really know how to respond to someone who's afraid of fire, she thinks he's a good guy. A good guy, and that's saying a lot for her. Maybe it's the fact that he's not human that does it, or maybe it's just that he's been nothing but genuine with her so far? The dance thread sort of solidified that, because he managed to get her to loosen up way more than I thought she would. He's doing all the right things to getting her to call her a friend at least.

They don't know one another well, and she'd like to change that, but it's hard for her to approach him mostly due to her own anxiety about approaching new people on her own.

Also, plz don't be too freaked out by the fire. It is your friend.
