What Edgeworth admires about Oz is the boy's energy and spirit, and how he can still smile despite having gone through a lot a.k.a. MURDERGAME FUNTIMES. That shows some serious inner strength and a determination to keep moving forward even though Oz has found himself in yet another world that isn't his own. He's a very interesting individual and someone Edgeworth doesn't mind talking to because even though Oz is cheerful, he isn't sickeningly or overly cheerful or invades his personal space. It's a tolerable level of cheerfulness. Anyway, Edgeworth foresees being able to learn from Oz not just stuff about sick alternate worlds but also about real strength.
Plus, Oz seems to have a good head on his shoulders. From what Edgeworth has seen of him so far, he thinks that Oz isn't the type to let this chipper attitude blind him to reality - well, he certainly didn't try to whitewash his experiences in murdergameland. Edgeworth doesn't look for whitewashed facts so this is all good to him. WE'LL MAKE A DETECTIVE OUT OF YOU YET, YOUNG PADAWAN - I mean.
Kaoru AH YES EDGEWORTH IS STILL TRAPPED. He thinks Kaoru is this gentle, refined, respectful, reserved and sensible young woman (LIES!) who agrees with him on so many levels. Cerealia is a crazy place, the CEO is useless and doesn't talk to his ~loyal subjects~ enough, etc. It's great that they can see eye to eye on a lot and they haven't argued about anything. Honestly, it feels...liberating, almost refreshing, to be able to talk comfortably with Kaoru and know that someone is willing to listen to his opinions and agree with them. And who could go wrong with a teabuddy? Kaoru likes tea. THE SUPERIOR BEVERAGE. THIS WAS MEANT TO BE.
Yes, Kaoru DID prank him that one time during the tarot event, but Edgeworth, while disgruntled with how his device was acting up and playing crazy 80's songs, has decided to attribute this prank to the effects of the card, not believing that Kaoru himself would be able to conceive such a NEFARIOUS SCHEME. That's actually how much Edgeworth thinks of Kaoru - he trusts Kaoru to keep a cool yet opinionated head in any situation and to also be a sounding board. Maybe he doesn't think of Kaoru as a friend yet, but he thinks of him as a very good acquaintance at this point.
