Athena => Archer

Athena isn't sure how to deal with Archer because he's just so depressing??? Like. He's got a bad personality and insults people, but at the same time, also looks down on himself. IT'S… something that she finds strange and uncomfortable because she doesn't know a lot of people who act that way. But at the same time, she knows that there are people who are like this. It's a defense mechanism. It's projection which is funny because ha ha… Fate. I bet you thought that was funny.

She just feels like she has to tread carefully since with her experience with Archer so far has been very unpredictable. She doesn't want to offend him in any way, aside from the usual joshing around, since he just seems to have such a complicated personality.

But it's not all that bad! Athena thinks he's a good person underneath, otherwise, she would have probably gotten hurt by him already. Physically, or getting yelled at and emotionally torn apart with words, otherwise. Archer might have a convoluted view on justice and what's right, but Athena feels that he's not a bad person. He means well, but what happened to him in the past turned him into this guy! And it just pings Athena so hard because it's people like him whom she wants to help the most. (I could go into detail about this, but it'll end up being full of spoilers so nvm.)

Basically, Athena wants to help Archer above anything else. She's a bit hesitant on going full-on energetic crazy lady and punching him in the friendships because there's the fear of rejection and also fuck Archer is intimidating. It still won't stop her from being offended by the stuff he says, though. At the very least, she wants to to help him in any way. Whether it's his personal issues, or picking what kind of haircut to get. Sleepovers and painting each other's nails can come later!

The reason for Athena studying so hard and becoming the nerd that she is now is because she wanted to help Simon. There's really not more to that! Athena sees him as the kind of person who acts tough and tries to carry the weight of the world on his shoulders. But Athena knows that people like those can't do it alone. Prime Simon example: He kept on insisting he was the one responsible for Metis Cykes' murder, when it really wasn't him. And because of that, he got arrested and was put in death row. BAD STUFF. While Archer's story wasn't exactly the same, the fact remains that he got blamed for something he didn't do and had to face consequences when none of that shit was supposed to happen to him anyway!

And stuff like that hurts. More than anything. Probably obvious enough since Athena ended up crying at his story. IT WAS TOUCHING AND SAD, OKAY.

The idea of losing her friends because they don't want other people getting involved in their problems is one of the things she fears most. Ultimately, it all comes down to Athena just wanting to keep her friends around her. She didn't have a lot growing up, and she's only begun making a lot of friends now. She'd dare not lose any. So when she meets people who are like Simon, or Juniper who was willing to be blamed for murder that she didn't do just so her friends can graduate, she wants to punch them in the feelings. She wants these kinds of people to know that they aren't alone, and she wants them to know that she'll be there to protect them. Whether it has something to do with a trial, or other things. Athena is there to protect her friends so that they won't have to experience being blamed and criticised for things they don't deserve. This also applies to Archer… by a lot. They're not even close friends yet, but STILL.

When it comes to helping, of course Athena can't really change what verdict was given to Archer. But she wants him to get past what happened. There's a lot of things to be happy about, and Archer doesn't have to throw away the good stuff because he's responsible for having killed a lot of people or whatever. She's very, very, very determined to (try and) take away those bad memories that made Archer the cynical ass that he is now, and replace those things with good stuff. There's probably more to him than what she already knows, too. MORE STUFF TO WORK ON! She's more experienced with psychology than law, so she knows that she can help him… whether he wants it or not! No one with a nice heart deserves to be in so much pain.

This has turned into aimless word salad I'm going to hit press comment now!!!
