BUT ZERO. Kaoru will probably soon ditch the cosmetics life to be a flower spy assassin, and Zero is the only thing about that shop that he'll actually miss when he bails. He doesn't care about the products or the other employees or the managers or customers, BUT ZERO IS A GEM. She's a shithead just like he is, but much louder and more vocal about it!! And since Kaoru has his reputation to uphold, he obviously can't be as loud as he'd sometimes like, so he basically uses Zero as a mouthpiece... since their feelings on a lot of things are the same anyway..... Like every time she says something's a shitheap or w/e it's almost guaranteed that he's right there internally nodding like "hell yea u tell em".

In a way, he actually kind of admires that about her? AND ALSO THINKS IT'S STUPID... But stupid in a vaguely admirable way!! A jealous part of him wishes that he could be as open about his shittery as Zero is, but because of the way his world view is shaped, he just doesn't think living like that is easy or wise. People will bend over backwards for someone they think is nice and sweet okay, and Zero is the exact opposite... ON THE OTHER HAND, she does have all of the freedom of expression that a person could ever want and she flaunts it and rocks it and sometimes makes Kaoru go "maybe it wouldn't be so bad", BUT NO. It'd be rough. Not everyone can live the Zero life, tragically.

On the scale of acquaintances, Zero would probably be grouped in with people like Soujirou and Vincent! People who have an idea of what kind of person he's really like, but still hang out with him despite that. MUTUAL SHITHEADS CLUB?? Zero is the person in that group that he has the fewest issues with too, though that's largely because they sort of have a mutual distance policy going on where they don't really meddle in each other's personal affairs. THIS WORKS OUT WELL FOR KAORU since he's the sort of person who likes to hold his cards close to his chest anyway, but he'll usually return the favor if it's a person he respects (or doesn't think he'll get much out of by way of use/information even if he does learn more about them.) IN ZERO'S CASE it's shockingly more of the former than the latter... She's probably the person he comes closest to respecting in Cerealia.

SO YEAH he'd like to learn more about her but it's more of a passing interest, not really because he'd want to use her in some EVIL NEFARIOUS FUTURE PLOT or whatever. But because of that, he's not too interested, and he's perfectly happy to just carry on being snotty shithead acquaintance coworkers.
