katsura is based off of a historical person so it's one of those stupid edo period series BLAHHH blah. that's what i mean when i say dead samurai. zura is alive and well (???) in his series currently and where ive taken him from (sort of.)
instead of opening up trade to the west, japan opens up its trade to aliens which USUALLY look like animals in the series. they take over the government, along with the shogun, all the while putting a ban on swords and putting a lot of samurais out of commission.
zura is a stubborn moron who remains fighting the aliens through other means.. like terrorism and political activism. he's leader of an illegal organization made up of samurais who want the aliens out of their country and the back to the way things could have been.
so he's a fugitive in his world, even though he isn't a "bad guy."

naoi is a dead guy in the literal sense. he comes from the afterlife... we have no idea how long he's been dead?! BUT THERE HE IS bossing people around, bein a little shit. he used to be a potter while he was alive but he did stage a massive hostile afterlife takeover so he'd be all over that fighting the aliens type stuff!! basically he just lives in an eternal highschool au except everyone has a tragic backstory because his afterlife is where the people who didn't lead fulfilling lives go, so they're trying to find god to make him pay for their unfair collective existences. GOOD WORK TEAM
OZ ON THE OTHER HAND is a dumb shonen hero with the worst luck stats imaginable?! HE TRIES REALLY HARD TO SAVE THE WORLD FROM DESTRUCTION but at the same time i mean he isn't exactly doing a great job at it u kno... his world is basically victorian england/france but on some fantasy planet and it consists of complex political factions that can summon freakyass creatures called chains from this literal abyss (it is also called the abyss good work guys) and they FIGHT FOR VARIOUS THINGS. it's all very dramatic.

nothing really culture shocks zura anymore. everything in ceres is just like.. meh. impressive, but used to flying space ships and videogames and JUMP back home in alternate historical japan.
all three of them look like they would be good CR tbh LMFAO.
zura is a comedic character but his comedy lies in the fact he takes everything literal and seriously so having straight man characters are always fun.
zura has, or had, a companion. you may hear him talk about elizabeth a lot which is that duck looking thing that's in a lot of my icons.
elizabeth was an alien gift given to katsura and it became his right hand man (???) thing and best friend. it's obviously a human like alien in a sheet but zura believes it's a bird creature and finds it cute, doting on it a lot.
if any of your characters have best friends or pets, there's another discussion to have. he's also an animal lover as you might have guessed.

OZ HAS A REALLY STRONG CONNECTION WITH RABBITS for Reasons so he might be good for the pet type discussions!! TREAT ANIMALS WELL AND HE WILL LOVE YOU FOREVER. kaoru is probably closest to a straight man character out of all three but oz is a little trolling hellion so THAT MIGHT WORK OUT TOO... maybe i'll just roll a die
