TL;DR RELATIONSHIP ❤ MEME ① List all the characters you play. ② People reply with CR they truly, madly, deeply want to know about. ③ Tl;dr on character relationships. First impressions count too! ④ ??? ⑤ Harvest all that tl;dr!
So Merlin is probably the one of an extremely small number of people who aren't from her worlds that she's met so far with whom she would be at all inclined to discuss her powers. Like, at all. Obviously this owes primarily to the fact that he's been very open about his, since a large part of her motivation for doing so would be a sense of guilt that stems from that perceived imbalance and unfairness. Aside from that, though, he's been pleasant company and has generally given enough of an impression of being a decent guy that she has no cause to mistrust him, which is an accomplishment all on its own. She likes Merlin, and he's been kind enough to put her at some degree of ease.
Naminé has never really had anyone in her life whom she could relate on the whole magic and hiding things level. Given her history with loneliness and the significant lack of support figures in her life as well as his superior experience with Cerealia, she can't quite help herself when it comes to picking his brain on those subjects since it's the first time she's ever had the chance to talk about those things with someone, even if she's not quite ready to do so openly. Asking him about the way he's been/is being treated in Cerealia also functions as her Geiger counter, so to speak, as she tries to figure out whether she should take a more active approach to what she can do. Frankly, she finds it hard to imagine that his openness won't come back to bite him at some point, so there's a certain measure of protectiveness to it, as well. He is Like Her, therefore she ought to look out for him. Her logic is flawless, clearly.
TL;DR: Basically he is her magic senpai. :|b Please notice her, she would really appreciate it. Girl needs all the help she can get.
