Yang to Yuri: I AM STARTING WITH THE EASIEST FIRST. Yang actually first met Yuri when he and Flynn were having an epic air hockey battle, but she never got their names, I'm pretty sure and she only stuck around long enough for snarky commentary because Yang. And ironically, then she met Flynn again without seeing his face, or remembering his voice, and when she met Yuri again, it wasn't "ah, air hockey guy" but "COULD THIS MAN BE MY PLUM-COLORED MIDNIGHT DESTINY" because... hella purple prose romantics. And the kiss WHY IS MY CR WITH YOU PEOPLE KISSING EACH OTHER UNDER INFLUENCES I'm crying anyway--
Because he was actually pretty chill and he knew where she was coming from in the "let's not speak of this ever again" department and also because he's looking out for Ruby, Yang likes Yuri! She obviously doesn't know that much about him, but it looks like he's going to turn out to be a banter buddy and that is fine with her.
Otome on Stahn: STAHN IS SUCH A SWEETHEART?? Okay so Otome's own protag can be a bit pervy and sassy, so Stahn in her mind is more like Jungo, which is to say that he's super sweet, kind-hearted, well-meaning, and so full of sunshine that she worries about the world being cruel to him. I mean yes, he's technically an adult, but. There's a difference between Hardened Adults and Stahn. She doesn't exactly know everything he's been through, so she wants to look out for him about as much as he wants to look out for her, and also because she thinks he's good for Leon. Because obviously that kid needs more people to care about him and he accepts Stahn doing it more than he takes it from anyone else, and she figures it's just a best friend thing-- even if Leon won't admit it. That Stahn was so worried to check in on her and bring her porridge after she'd collapsed and the way he reacted when she almost strolled off a bridge just kind of cements the point that he's just a purely sincere and wonderful kid. Man. Thing. She'd also like to properly meet his sword, but I'll make that happen soon. She just hopes that one day she can support Stahn in any way that she can, the way he's helped her, because she can at least tell that he's a little bit homesick. But hey, now they'll be working together to find a way to save all of the worlds, SO BRING IT ON.
Mary on Roxas: /FACE IN HANDS
okay
So Mary's initial impression of Roxas was that... well okay honestly they were both pretty confused by each other and what was going on at the time, but because they were forced into so many awkward situations and because Roxas still managed to convey some level of concern for her and... you know, forgave her for kissing him-- yeah. The time she'd spent in the colony and the aforementioned made Mary a little braver in extending the offer of friendship and I'd like to say the rest is history but that's a copout SO
Their relationship's kind of been defined by a sense of comfort. With them slowly getting to know each other and show each other the things they like (Roxas with his lookout spot and ice cream and Mary with her shoujo), it's been a pretty steady progression of comfort level, with spikes like Mary revealing her eye ability and Roxas getting hurt trying to protect her and the whole medusa explanation, and then her memory loss, and just-- literally everything they've done has brought them closer together, even if it was just Mary trying to explain the concept of love to him or them talking about dreams and sunsets and how they've started teasing each other more or the groggy sick texts or the flopping over in exhaustion. Because it's all comfortable to Mary, and everything felt so natural to her as it happened, that she legitimately did not realize that half the things her shoujo taught her about and what Arles told her... were things she could apply to Roxas.
Until Hiro made her realize that while she treasured all of her friends, Roxas felt different, and not in the sense of a best friend (because he has those already). And then she had to stop and think, because Hiro took his crush on Ruby and his feelings and phrased it so that Mary could completely understand, and when she thought about what Arles said about wanting someone to be happy more than anything and how just thinking about her feelings for Roxas being more than friendship made her feel anxious and her chest start to hurt... well. She didn't realize when things changed or how, because like everything else, her crush was also like a natural progression.
Quite honestly, Mary's afraid of what to do with her feelings. Her father died when she was still really young, none of her friends were really dating each other, and all she really has for reference material are fairy tales and manga, but Roxas isn't a prince, and she's not a princess, and they've never really been in a shoujo-esque situation where she can get an idea of how he feels. And she's scared that if she brings it up, he won't understand or he'll reject her completely, and that terrifies her more than anything. So she doesn't really want to mention it (and she really won't want to mention it when the Nobody reveal happens) but this is also Mary who is also obvious and will be flustering more often oops.
Overall, though, Roxas is an incredibly important friend to Mary. His simple acceptance, that she was just 'Mary', kind of stunned her, and the way he reacted when she told him about Styx, the way he kept running to stop her from being reckless when she was trying to drag her memories back up-- she knows by now that he cares and that he really just wants to keep her safe, but she also wants to do the same-- and she can't, because she can't fight like he does, and she can't stop him from getting hurt. Even though he's reassured her, there's SO MUCH MORE she wants to do for him, but she's not sure what that is. So she just tries to let him know that she's listening and she'll always try to be supportive, and he is not allowed to say nothing about him is special. Because there are things about Roxas that make him so distinctively Roxas, and their promises and their time together mean the world to her. There are still a lot of mysteries about him, about his job, and his portal ability, and how he said he's not normal either... but she's prepared to wait until he's ready to explain more of it to her.
