As far as people in Cerealia go, Kaoru doesn't actually mind Edgeworth all that much! He's in the massive grey "eh" area that SO MANY are in... Basically Kaoru doesn't actively dislike him (any more or less than he actively dislikes anyone else, anyway) but he would still throw him under the bus in a heartbeat if necessary, and it's not like he's super interested in getting to know Edgeworth better or anything. He's just a relatively sensible human (most of the time) who is potentially a decent ally to have against CERES. That's more or less Kaoru's criteria in Cerealia for deciding who's an EH OK SURE person and who's a NOPE YOU DIE ASAP person... lord, he's an ass.

That said, he 100% found that whole stint in the library hilarious. He's got to get his amusement where he can!! Life is hard in Cerealia when you have to pretend to be a good person all the time! So the outward presentation of concern is, to the surprise of probably no one, almost consistently a big fat lie. He assumes Edgeworth will probably manage to skirt through out of dangerous situations just fine (more or less) in the end anyway since he isn't a complete dummy. And that's about it as far as opinions that aren't blase go... smdh
