Leon : Hiro (psyche)
Okay so Leon really dislikes Hiro right back--it's a mutual thing, isn't that nice? But he really doesn't tend to like people...period... and he especially doesn't like people who sass him and pry and try to learn more about him. He certainly doesn't trust Hiro and he's going to be doing his absolute best to avoid him from here on out because he wasn't expecting him to be as smart as he is.
Hiro's now the only person besides Stahn and Leon who knows that Leon has died back home. He'd been intending to keep that under wraps but honestly, he sucks at it, so Hiro figured it out and Leon's honestly partially waiting for the other shoe to drop now. When is Hiro going to try to use that against him? Only time will tell.
Yeah, Leon's a sad, paranoid, drowned angry kitten.
Ruby : Hiro
God okay... so Ruby honestly liked Hiro from the moment they met, despite the weird awkward dancing. She didn't hold that against him, of course; ViViD does weird things to people all the time, and she knows it. But Hiro was a little awkward, sure, but he was also fun and dynamic, and so Ruby was able to forget her own awkward and just have fun and be dynamic with him. And honestly, that's been the consistent trend with them.
Neither of them is any good at dealing with people, or making friends, and on top of that they're both in really awkward situations back home with being bumped ahead because they're just that good at what they do. But Ruby's never found anyone like Hiro who understood what it was like to be special and just not want to be. Yang told her that she needed to embrace it because she was special, but that's not what Ruby wanted. Ruby wanted to be treated like a normal girl, and...well, Hiro delivered.
"Just Hiro" and "Just Ruby" meant so much to Ruby, even more than she can ever put into words. It meant that Hiro understood her completely like nobody else did. It meant that Hiro trusted her to treat him like he wanted to be treated. It meant that Hiro would treat her how she wanted to be treated, and I think that was the moment when Ruby realized that Hiro was a really important friend to her. He was her partner in a lot of things and a lot of ways, and she trusted him to understand her no matter what.
When Hiro finally started to confide in her, she realized that...well, he'd been through a lot. And I think that's when she realized that she wanted to support him no matter what. While they were out there in the jungle, camping out and talking under the stars and the trees, she realized that she wanted to be there for Hiro and protect him when he needed it, and support him when he didn't need her protection, but he did need someone to be there for him. She wanted to be that person who would be there for him no matter what, and...well, that was a pretty hefty thing, though she didn't really realize that she was getting budding feelings then because. She's bad at that sort of thing.
But it was enough for her. So long as she could be that support for Hiro...it's enough.
And that remains the case now that she knows how she feels about him. It's a new feeling to really like someone that way, and the things he does make her heart soar and skip a beat, but she thinks that it's a good thing because that had already happened before. Flying on Baymax to rescue people even before she felt that way about him had made Ruby's heart soar too. Working with him to help people, fighting alongside him--that had all done the same. Regardless of what her feelings are doing, Ruby knows that she wants to be with Hiro no matter what, and that that's enough.
She wants to be with him, she wants to support him. She admires his intelligence, and his drive. She loves the way that he throws himself into things. She loves his creativity and the way that he never stops inventing and creating. She loves that he loves Baymax as much as he does, and that he's such a hero.
Because to Ruby, heroes are the best people there are.
But she also understands that he's not perfect, and that's fine with her too. She wishes that he would slow down sometimes--but it's okay if he doesn't, because she'll convince him to. She knows he's awkward sometimes, but it's okay because she is too. She knows he doesn't always know what he's doing, but he tries to bravado his way through, and that's okay too, because Ruby knows why anyone would do that, and that she tried it herself too.
She understands why he's the way he is, so it doesn't bother her in the least. He's her precious friend no matter what, and that will always be true. He's the person who makes her smile, the person who keeps her excited about things happening, and who matches her curiosity and sense of heroics and adventure step by step.
She knows that she definitely does like him more than a friend, and eventually the sign will come when she knows when to tell him (and lbr it'll probably be over pancakes), and...she's terrified about it but also strangely excited, because even things that are awkward don't stay awkward for long when it's Hiro. She's got complete and total faith in him, and she knows that no matter what, so long as they face things together, they're going to win.
After all, Ruby believes in fairy tales, and the good guys win in fairy tales always, and they are without a doubt the good guys--together.
