It's hilarious because Takeru's actually activated a lot of Hiro's protective instincts and he finds himself channeling Tadashi so hard when he's talking to him. Despite that, he tries really hard not to treat Takeru like a little kid. He sees pieces of himself in Takeru's personality and he's hoping he's able to help him navigate his way through growing inside the colony and really becoming a little more independent and helping out since it's clear to him that's what Takeru wants. On the other hand, he wants to make sure Takeru knows that he CAN come and talk to him about the big and scary things and that's okay to reach out to people. He doesn't want to see someone else make the mistakes he made.

He finds Takeru to be amusing and sometimes he's a little awkward around him because there is such a large age gap that he's not used to, but he thinks of him as a friend and he's going to do what it takes to protect him until Takeru can protect himself. From there? Well then he'll have a pretty good ally.
