Okay so William already had an impression of Kaz before he even met him. And it was that of no good Kevin thief. Because Kevin was being all shifty, so why would he do that? Secret boyfriend?
And honestly, meeting Kaz during a break in shouldn't have helped, because who does that? But well, for William that shit is already a normal occurrence in canon. He's just used to people having no respect for normal human boundaries, which is sad, but not the point here. So like he thought this guy was kind of dweeby at first, then he found out that they were actual the same, in that they were both reincarnations of some biblical dead dude. And like, Kaz is the first person William has been open with about this in Cereal. Like he is open about a lot here, because the situation is so bizarre already. But he does lie about the Solomon thing and keeps it at "just a descendant." Even though he's beginning to make peace with it in canon, it still kind of like hurts him a little that people tend to only see Solomon in him, especially since he's such a prideful guy on top of it all. Which is why it was so great to meet Kaz and find out someone else had been through the same.
That said, he's also aware of the fact that it's very different for Kaz. He's in a much more frightening position, being forced to kill people for god, so sometimes William feels a little guilty for whining at him. And he worries about him, because William can tell he's holding back. William's not the type to pry into things people don't want to tell him, especially if it's a sore spot. But he still wants Kaz to eventually rely on him. William had a lot of problems in canon that he left behind and can't do anything about, so it means he has a lot more time to worry about others, which includes Kaz.
When the demon thing comes out, William probably won't react too badly, because he is used to everyone around him lying about what they are. He might be a bit annoyed and be, "well of course," but he'll probably get over it. He's kind of at the point where he cares far more about his important people being reliable, then he does about him not being human.
It's also possibly that once he catches onto how stalkery Kaz is being that he'll be annoyed by that. He's used to to it in canon, but that doesn't mean he likes it. Both because it violates boundaries and also because it makes him feel like he's being treated like a weakingling. And he just plain hates people put themselves in danger over him. But this is all stuff for the possible future. Kevin is different, because Kevin.
Over all, he kind of really likes Kaz, both as a kindred spirt, and because he's pleasant, in a very dweeby way.
