England is over a thousand years old, and he has never really had a serious relationship. in my headcanon, he dated two other nations, both male (he's not attracted to females), but those relationships didn't last, either because they became enemies later, or they moved on to other objects of affection. and, sure, there are some countries that have a lot of relationships, sometimes all at the same time! but England's not that type of guy... he's pretty romantic, and also kind of a prude. so he's not going to sleep with any Tom, Dick, or Harry (this does not mean he is as vanilla as possible. he's called the Ero Ambassador by other nations. but that's... probably another story for another time).
besides that... he refuses to have a relationship with a human. that's just messy. he doesn't get too attached to humans because they don't live long... and he also thinks of them as inferior beings. and then most of the other nations really dislike him, because he colonized them or picked on them when they were younger (he was a teenager during his pirate years. he was NOT NICE).
so you've got this prudish gentleman nation who is a loner because he made a lot of enemies over the years going on a date for the first time in Lord knows how long (thanks Jaune and Mabel). and he doesn't know what to do because he doesn't want to be rude to his date and what if his date was a girl and whose idea was this anyway.
and then along comes Chibi. this guy who is friendly and interesting to talk to, and he is making the date so nice and casual. AND THEN. Chibi wants to actually go on another date afterwards. he wants to date mister old awkward man. and England's feeling goddamn twitterpated by this because someone wants to hang out with him, and isn't repulsed by him being in the same room and...
and then Valentine's Day was ruined... though, not exactly. once England found out Chibi wasn't human, that just meant FULL SPEED AHEAD in his books. he realizes the kiss came fast, but he was dealing with a lot of emotions, and he really thought he was going to die. he didn't want to have any regrets! if he had died then, he would have died happy. and happy is a big deal for England, okay?
that's what it boils down to right now. Chibi texts him, brings him plants, wants to be around him. Chibi makes England happy. England thinks he's quite fascinating, and I can't wait until he learns more about Chibi's job in Cerealia. because that is badass, and he will think so.
the bad news is that England is constantly on edge waiting for the other shoe to drop. he worries that Chibi will learn about his punk side and be totally turned off by him, or England fears blowing up over some stupid thing, or just that his neurotic worrying in general will drive Chibi away. also, the way things have turned out in Cerealia, if something good happens to England, something bad happens almost immediately after. if you think about it in terms of their date, they had a good first date. Valentine's Day, they were left worrying that they'd die. then Chibi leaves a gift for him, and England's house is destroyed the next day.
England does not think that Chibi is the problem, because shit like this has been happening since he got here (he made a big drunken post about it). but he is going to be wary of getting close—even though he really wants to—just because he's so scared.
SIGH. what a mess you've gotten roped into, Chibi. I'm sorry.

BA-SI-CA-LLY what I get from this is that Chibi is England's opposite in a lot of ways but aligned in certain ways as well, i.e. pretty much my favorite thing. because while England's not used to relationships in any serious capacity, Chibi's this guy who held down a multi-decade lover before he got here, at varying levels of secrecy - and when he felt it was his time to die, he gave it all up. and then he gets thrown here, a place that's not nearly as natural to him as living in his hippie commune with a bunch of flowers. he knows, on some level, that he cannot seclude himself here, or he will die. nobody's here to drag him from his workshop or the temple, and even his brother - the one person he could depend on for that sort of thing - is gone.
and he doesn't think much of the date - they gave him COUPONS!!! and he's just following through on the thing, because he figures, hey, might as well make a friend. he didn't expect to actually make a connection because, shit, he hasn't made a real connection with someone besides his siblings in many, many years. (they all keep dying on him, ok.) he legitimately enjoys England's presence and conversation, enough to seek it out (and initiative is a difficult thing for him). enough to, when they thought they were going to die, seek out his company and touch. and that pretty much says it.
but a big challenge I do see coming up for them along this path is that Chibi's... well, he hasn't done this in a loooong time, to say nothing of the difficulty he has approaching deeper interpersonal relationships in general. we see many people who had surface relationships with him, or revered him as a prophet - and it could be argued that he's the centerpiece of a love polygon among his siblings... - but very few he had a connection with. and, again, those are all his siblings. he's prone to come on strong and then think he's coming on too strong and dial it back too much, or to forget people exist for a week at a time, or stuff like that. he's some mix between hopelessly energetic and utterly exhausted with life, and he walks the thin line with a lot of meditation and alone time.
also, he has a few secrets of his own. a LOT of secrets. but that's a bridge to be crossed way later.
the other big challenge will be that England is scared, and Chibi's prone to interpret that as disinterest. he's never been burned in that big way that England has - he's well-revered if nothing else, and his partner in his longest-lasting relationship freely expressed the way she felt to him... even though in public, she kept it a secret. he has about 0% idea what the deal is with a tsundere - maybe in a previous life, but not now. but they can work it out among themselves.
besides, when Chibi does find out about England's punk side? he's probably going to be inexplicably really turned on by it, meditate on why that is, and get more in tune with that creation myth of his - the one with the Goddess of creation and the Dragon of destruction.

England adores Rei. and Mars. he also has a great respect for her since she told him about her secret. that being said, he also is terrified of her learning about his bad sides, because he knows she's not the type to pull punches. he doesn't remember the drunken post very well, but he knows Rei was there, and Rei had Words for him.
but at the same time, she's also so kind. he wants to protect her, but thinks she can probably protect herself better. so he's trying to find that happy medium where he can be a perfect gentleman that she can look up to, but also a friend. i think he does want to be more vulnerable around her, eventually, too.
he also wants to know more about Princess Mars! or Soldier Mars! when she is Mars, he'll probably call her Princess, unless she tells him not to. ;~; SO MUCH RESPECT.

like England, Minako has respect for Rei, but it didn't start out that way. i think before their Exam Battle adventure, Minako perceived Rei as untouchable, and not in a good way. she was always so aloof and distant. and it didn't seem like she had any fun. but that was a big deal to Minako... to have fun...
with Venus, it was different. Venus always respected Mars, i think. it took Minako a little while to warm up to her.
nowadays, Minako knows how Rei acts, and what she likes or dislikes. Rei isn't going to be flashy like her, and she's okay with that. Minako, herself, has also toned down a little, because she's older, so she's not going to drag Rei into wacky adventures, unless Rei agrees to go on them. Minako likes Rei the way she is, and she was quite flattered that someone like Rei even noticed her romantically.
i still think there are some things that Minako can't figure out about Rei, like why she likes Minako. that still baffles her. but it's also nice to be in a relationship. it's something she's wanted for a while. and now snippets of memories from Venus' time with Mars are starting to peek out and Minako is beginning to remember those too. so she is generally very happy. sometimes confused, but mostly happy!

And she really, truly knows that all the things she hates about other people aren't something she has to worry about. She's unsure of herself, but there's no anxiety on her part about the usual stuff. Just...relationship jitters.

though I suppose I will go more in depth, since that is the name of the game! England has a deep respect for all things magical and mystical. Faeries, unicorns, ghosts, spirits, he believes these are all treasured beings that should be protected at all costs! and he certainly likes his mystical beings more than humans. has more respect for them, too.
so already England's placed CCP (and the rest of the swords) on a pedestal. his crush is heavily influenced by his love of the occult. so when I say crush, with him, it would be more of like a deep loving respect (he feels the same way for Dotanuki, but that's another story for another time). I don't think he was ever thinking YEAH WE SHOULD DATE, aside from thinking CCP is handsome. he places these beings on a whole different level. so the swords are kind of... untouchable?
when you combine this deep respect with the fact that CCP 1) wants to be England's friend and 2) is really really ridiculously good-looking, you get that crush kind of multiplied. England cannot fathom how such a nice guy can care about him. he's kind of blown away by CCP. basically he thinks the guy is perfect, and this perfect entity likes him somehow??? how is this possible???
...England has fairly low self-esteem. ^^;;;
when he lashed out, England was incredibly angry at CERES. it seems like every time something good happens to him, something bad has to also happen so that there will be balance. i also think he's frustrated because CCP keeps seeing him at his weakest, and England likes to show how strong he is. he will apologize later, and may even say what was going on with him. he finds it easier to talk to his mythical friends as opposed to humans, or other nations.
...i also think England will be sad for a little while about Vietnam and CCP. not devastated, because, like I said, he's not in love with CCP. but he'll probably laugh it off, say that that's just his lot in life, and then go off somewhere to have a pity party by himself. after that, he will be CCP's loyal friend, and will always make sure to see that Miss Vietnam is taken care of. SO YOU BETTER BE GOOD TO HER!!! BLESS THIS MARRIAGE!!!
i hope we can play a pairing someday lies here

...it wasn't his fault the gym was washed away later.
anyway, if he met up with Tieria again, he's one of the first people England would trust during a disaster. and England doesn't trust people so easily!

England loves Yuto, wants to protect him even though he's fairly certain Yuto can protect himself. it was the same way with Yuya, only England knows more of the story between Yuto and Yuya, so he feels like he's closer to them. he tried to act on this closeness during their tea drinking lights out adventure, but Yuto seemed to pull away. and England was sad.
BUT THEN YUTO LET ENGLAND WALK HIM HOME AND HE WAS HAPPY AGAIN.
i think once England learns that Yuya is gone, he'll try reaching out to Yuto again, maybe even tell him about his true identity. but yes, pretty much Yuto is too good for this world and must be protected at all costs!
even though Yuto saved him once. whoops.

best dad everI was thinking that Yuto would text him about Yuya being gone. He would be a bit more honest with his saddens. Right now he's basically the only one left, after Yuya, Yuzu and even Gongenzaka disappeared.
England is the only person in Cereal who knows about Yuya and Yuto not being cousins. He's also one of the people Yuto trust the most here. Yuto knows England wishes to protect him, but he doesn't know what to think of that. Yuto lived in a world destroyed by war, he knows how to survive on his own, but he also wishes to protect people he cares about the most. Since he thinks of England as a good friend, he also feels protective of him (no matter how strange it sounds, coming from a 14 years old kid). He would feel bad if he knew he made England sad, he never meant that.

it's so much easier for her to open up to people, and now she has a successful business, with a bunch of swords and other people England really wishes he were closer to. he doesn't hold that against her, but he does wish he had some of her light some time.
other than that, Vietnam is on his PRECIOUS BABBUS MUST PROTECT AT ALL COST list! he adores her and is glad she is successful. he doesn't have to worry about Miss Vietnam because she is surrounded by loving friends hahahahahaha...
sits over here lonely
he also has mad respect for her, which just carried over from home. someone who was able to deal with the crap France and America (and he, himself) put up just earns a nod of approval in England's book.

Jaune is definitely one of those people that England wants to protect no matter what. he gets so frustrated with some of the things Jaune does that he cannot stand it. it's like, he wants to say, didn't your mother ever tell you not to do stupid things? but he hasn't quite said that... yet.
but even more than wanting to protect the precious, England... sees himself in Jaune. and you and others may be thinking, wow how could that even be they are not alike England is an accomplished bastard. but hear me out.
England may have been an accomplished nation once but right now? he's kind of just a fussy old has-been. he's not athletic, he's not a hero, and he has maybe one or two friends who probably pity him more than anything. also, don't even get him started about relationships. geez, man.
he doesn't listen to Taylor Swift, but he is pretty romantic. he has so many people here in Cerealia he wants to protect, but he's not doing anything awesome. he's not flying in, guns bared, raiding through CERES like he says he will. but he has a big heart, and he sees that same heart in Jaune. England wants much more for Jaune because he acknowledges that that big heart is good, and he doesn't want Jaune to grow up and be a pitiful loser like him.
he's glad that Jaune has a lot of friends who are willing to watch out for him. maybe he envies that.
