AKANE!! Can you believe that that was the best attempt he could make at not giving a fuck... sadly, he gives a lot of fucks about Akane, and not just because she seems like an incredibly genuine person (she's told him as much, and he believes her)— he worries about her, to some extent, because he worries about people who have big hearts in general.

—This means that he thinks Akane has a big heart, what a loser.

Worry might be a strong word, but it's worry in the sense that he can tell that she's capable! And she handles things! and that's all well and good, but he also hopes that she has people she can unwind in front of, or generally not be capable in front of. He's thankful that she keeps in touch with him and he wants life to be good to her, which is basically him being a nerdlord deluxe, so there's that... He'd absolutely fight for her if that ever became necessary, not that he'd ever say so. Because, again, he's a nerdlord.

He also thinks Akane's too naive, DON'T LET STRANGE GUYS IN YOUR HOUSE... WHY IS SHE SO SINCERE! WHAT IS THIS! He wonders why she hasn't run screaming from him yet or why she continues humoring him and letting him semi-fuss over her, because he doesn't think he's been particularly nice or friendly enough to warrant her acceptance. Which makes him appreciate her more, because her brand of kindness is the sort of thing he's grown to avoid, and would have wanted to keep avoiding if she hadn't been so "??? this is completely normal" about it. She's endlessly endearing to him, as exasperating as it is.

So, Ai! There are Things about Ai that Adolf suspects that he hasn't quite voiced but has pieced together from bits of conversation— that she's had some bad experiences in the past with being given orders, and that those orders came from adults. It's one of those things that he doesn't know quite how to approach without feeling like he's stepping over emotional boundaries, so he's choosing not to, which he thinks is for the best. Who likes being reminded of painful things, right? The world is hard enough without him reminding Ai about Bad People doing Potentially Bad Things.

Ai is...kind of an anomaly to Adolf, in that he has no idea what she's capable of, how powerful she is. She seems so flippant about her powers, which is slightly jarring considering that he doesn't consider that flippancy exactly normal, but he's also getting used to the different worlds thing— so right now, he thinks she's a little too forthright and a little too willing to help, but he's not terribly troubled by that. He's glad that she doesn't seem scared or put-off by him, at least; that helps, and he's grateful for it.

OONA, THOUGH. Adolf is fascinated by her, in a lot of respects: you'd think that the biggest point of intrigue would be that they're not strictly the same species, but that takes a back seat to the fact that Adolf admires how forthright she is about her past, and about what she's gone through. And how vibrant and upbeat she is, despite it! Oona's brand of strength is radiant to him in that it's something he, ironically, considers really human... which is probably not something Oona wants to hear (lmfao...) but it's the sentiment, not the semantics. She's alive, in the fullest sense of that word, to him! And that's admirable, that's the sort of strength he's never had.

Her vibrancy is really charming, and he appreciates that she hasn't shied away or reacted to his scars negatively; he hopes that they won't be bad reminders, but he also has a feeling that she won't think of them that way, which is somewhat of a comfort! As someone who knows what it's like to be tethered to machinery and used like a lab rat, he hopes she never has to go through that kind of thing again.

Also she was really cute about his electricity so he's mad thankful about that too... he's a prickly eel but he already has a soft spot for her, tragic.
