hawke's not super great.
but really, she does like tadashi because she thinks he's so... sweet? simple? INNOCENT? hawke's kind of Thing in cerealia is that there's a whole bunch of people here who aren't so... jaded and angry and bitter as most people she knows back home and she kind of wants to collect them. because their kindness isn't crippling them too, it isn't a bad thing. it's just how they live their life because they can afford to do that and now i am RAMBLING about something ELSE but yes, tadashi is one of those people who hawke is oddly fascinated with because of it.
the point is, she likes that. she likes it in a weird out of body way where "i shouldn't be here, this guy is too nice" and yet when she talks to tadashi she keeps wanting to do things like... offer to get him soup and ask him how his day was or listen to him talk about his creations. it's really weird for her! and one day she will find out that tadashi is legit dead because he's so damn nice and -- well, you know, she'll probably honestly be really crushed. damnit, tadashi.

as far as hawke can tell, rei's got a sensible head on her shoulders and is well-versed in what she worships. hawke is, of course, willing to help her set up her shrines and all that because hawke is handy like that. but for hawke it's like... this is so bad, but hawke is happy to make the connection with rei and be acquaintances with her in the passing greeting type of way/contact if one of them needs something or other but hawke definitely wouldn't pursue friendship. because rei's a priestess. SORRY, REI.
hawke wouldn't show this in any of their interactions though and be perfectly friendly, even charming but it'll never go beyond surface level unless rei puts in the effort because that's the type of person hawke is. she's friendly, has many friends, but keeps her distance from most people and unfortunately, by way of occupation, rei is one of those people hawke makes a note to never get too involved with.
still, she thinks rei is fairly competent and nice and if anyone needed a priestess or if there was a pickle and she saw rei passing by, she'd go right for her! it will just never be the deepest friendship on hawke's part.

but no!! hawke likes zack. he's eager and happy and it's all kind of throwing her off because he's also not... stupid? like there's some people who have the same bounciness of zack but hawke shows up and thinks "oh yes i can mess with them using my words and amuse myself like that" -- but she doesn't think she can do that with zack. he has just enough self-awareness that he'll call her out on it and she's not sure how to handle that yet! she doesn't know you like that, zack. believe her wily, wily ways already.
eventually, she might see him in a properly little brother type slot but right now, she's like "okay, i like you, but how do i get the upperhand in this relationship?" since it's... hawke. she doesn't feel super great unless she's the cleverest one in the room and she also doesn't handle sincerity well. both of which, zack's throwing her a little off on. she has to admire him for bouncing right into cerealia pretty well though. compared to the intro log thread and then their later stuff, he automatically adjusted to the stuck in the jamjar ways which hawke is very much the type to give props for, okay!
so basically, yeah. she likes zack but she's still circling around him and sniffing his butt like a big dog to a little dog. how do i handle you, tiny yappy creature?

hawke really, really, really likes sousei. not in that way, probably? (at most she's like "i'd do you but you also have the sexual libido of a telephone pole") but in terms of cerealia, he's accidentally become one of her most important people. how did that happen? she slightly resents the fact. hawke's a strong independent protag who don't need no companions!!
anyway, sousei is smart, he is capable, and he has an incredibly wide berth of patience than given credit for. he's also completely different on the inside than what's on the outside and this fascinates hawke. she's a people reader, she's a people person, and even if hawke hates the fact she's a protagonist -- it doesn't stop her from being pulled in to interesting people, which sousei is. he's just like her! sort of. not exactly like her no but they share the same opinions on basically... everything in a way that both surprises and delights hawke immensely. there's nothing better than having a friend that hates the same shit you hate, right?
then there's also the fact that being around sousei chills hawke the heck out. sousei's like this really weird amalgamation of fenris and aveline and that weirdly enough, soothes hawke. they've never talked about feelings or anything (because hawke... doesn't talk about feelings) but when hawke's feeling all messed up inside -- heading over to sousei, bothering him and/or baiting him into a fist fight, that makes all of hawke's troubles just. poof, gone. which is helpful since without her kirkwall crew, there's no sort of like... valve release for the pressure cooker that is hawke's bullshit.
so, there's understanding here. there's companionship. there's the fact sousei is actually kind of brilliant at the banter. but sousei's still not a proper Bioware Companion mostly because he... just wouldn't be. it's slightly frustrating. sousei is probably one of the few people hawke knows in cerealia that she constantly thinks to herself "oh, if varric/aveline/bethany/etc were here, i could introduce them to sousei" which is a high honor, okay. it totally is.
so yeah, hawke feels an embarrassing amount of things for sousei and will just deal with it by being intensely sarcastic at him. since, y'know, hawke's an adult who deals with things in adult like ways.

but no hawke really does like??? hiccup enough except every time they talk, they just so happen to stumble upon some FUNDAMENTAL DISAGREEMENT and it sends everything straight to hell. hawke thinks they could get along really well if it weren't for this... constantly disagreement and now every time she hears that nasal tone of jay baruchel, she balks a little.
worry not, friendship will be achieved one day. some day. maybe?? you're kind of anders in personality sometimes, hiccup. you should really watch yourself for that. hawke isn't sure how she feels about hiccup.

she doesn't know anything about the whole country thing yet and doesn't really think anything is weird with vietnam's name so, why would she question? but if she ever found that out, there would be a very long weary sigh of oh, of course. thanks, vietnam.
but overall hawke's pretty like "i would bro that lady" about vietnam, just hasen't had the chance yet.

SO, JAUNE IS HAWKE'S SON. not her brother because at least with a younger brother, you assume they can take care of themselves. hawke keeps running into jaune and going "okay, i'm just going to make fun of him and not get emotionally invested in this conversation at all" and tries really, really, really hard to do so for the first couple of minutes until inevitably, jaune does something... jaune-ish and hawke is overcome with the need to fix it all. this is really not anything she's enjoying.
she can't even compare him to anyone she knows back home since none of them are close to the whole jaune-ness that is jaune (and if hawke was a tad more self-aware, she'd realize that she's the one back home who usually fills the jaune role and that's why she's accidentally become so attached to him). but she wants the best for jaune and for him to do his best because she thinks he can but it's a weird balance here between aggressively wanting to mentor but also not wanted to be invested at all --
which is why she keeps starting the way she does. I WILL MAKE FUN OF HIM hawke says and the conversation ends with her trying awkwardly to give him life advice. I WILL EMBARRASS HIM IN PUBLIC FOR MONEY hawke goes and ends up changing her goal to just trying to help jaune build up his self-esteem. eventually hawke might go "i have to stop talking to jaune or i'm going to get more attached" and end up talking to jaune way, way more.
if only jaune knew the internal crisis he was causing hawke to have at any given moment. but he doesn't. because it's jaune and this entire reason is why she likes him so much! IT'S NOT FUN KICKING THE DOG WHEN THE DOG THINKS IT DESERVES IT. INSTEAD YOU END UP WANTING TO TAKE THE DOG HOME, GIVE IT A BATH AND SOME BACON. HAWKE DOESN'T WANT TO GIVE UP HER BACON.
